Chinese Cultural Revolution, May 25, 1966



"It all began at Beida."

Eh.

The big character poster, dazibao, began at Beida. Professor Nie Yuanzi put up the first one accusing CPC leadership of Khrushchev-like revisionism, which you don't want to be accused of if you're a CPC leadership type. It was a significant shot across the bow, a seminal moment in the unleashing of the Cultural Revolution.
