Man there is a 4th and go-for-it plague in scholarly tackle football this year. UNC took the opening kickoff and moved from their 41 to the Pitt 38. Not exactly a dominating march. They went for it on 4th and 1 and got stuffed. Pitt took the ball and got in range and kicked a FG. Not a horrible decision to go for it there given the field position. That's one of those tween distances, too long for a FG, too short for a punt. I guess they don't teach pooch punting in college anymore. But it didn't work out for UNC. They had not moved the ball much, and not converting a 4th down always fires up the other side. That has always been the thinking. Maybe they don't teach that anymore in college either.
