Perhaps I was too hasty.

I have just watched extended highlights of Virginia Tech against North Carolina on October 19. "Hokies" won in six OT's at Blacksburg. A month later, on November 14, Pitt beat UNC in Pittsburgh in one overtime. What turned VaTech's season around was sophomore QB Hendon Hooker? I don't see that. Hooker played only the first half of the UNC game. He's a big, 6'4", skinny kid. Twisted his left leg on a non-contact play at the end of the first half and didn't return. Two other QB's won the game for Tech in those six OT's. UNC's freshman QB Sam Howell was better than all three "Hokie" QB's combined. Howell had five touchdown passes.

Kenny Pickett is a better QB than Hendon Hooker. Hooker seems not be held in the highest regard by Tech coach Justin Fuente. Hooker entered the transfer portal in January and then came back to Tech. That will reduce your favor with the head coach. Hooker did not start the season as the "Hokie" QB. Fuente has been playing musical chairs with the position all season long. Hooker did not win the starting job until the Miami game. After the UNC game one of the other Tech players said that what he liked most about Hooker was his "swagger." When asked about that Fuente said "I don't know what swagger means" which means Fuente knows what swagger means just not what swagger means when applied to Hendon Hooker. Tech had a week off and then played Notre Dame by the lake. Hooker was fine. Healthy. Ready to go. Fuente played Quincy Patterson II the whole game and Hooker not a snap.

Hooker is a dual threat QB. Dual threat QB's can fuck a defense up. Dual threat QB's also get hit a lot. Let me tell Hendon Hooker and Justin Fuente something at this particular juncture: Hendon Hooker is going to get hit more often and harder by the Pitt defense than he has ever been hit in his life. VaTech's offensive line is not as good as Pitt's offensive line and not as good as Pitt's defensive line. Pitt leads the nation in QB sacks. Pickett is not going to get hit as hard or as often as is Hooker.

VaTech's receivers are not as good as Pitt's.

VaTech's defense is not as good as Pitt's.

VaTech's running game is better than Pitt's, but my running game is better than Pitt's. Perhaps VaTech's defense can key on Pitt's one-dimensional pass offense the way it keyed on GaTech's one-dimensional run offense. No. VaTech's defensive strength is not in its safeties and cornerbacks. Sam Howell had five passing touchdowns against VaTech's safeties and corners. Kenny Pickett is not as strong nor as accurate passer as Sam Howell but Pickett is a strong and accurate passer. Pickett can also run. VaTech's defense is not going to shut out Pitt's offense as it did GaTech's.

VaTech's head coach, Fuente, is no better than Pitt's head coachPat Narduzzi.

So, I was too hasty in stating emphatically that Virginia Tech was going to beat Pitt Saturday. Now, I don't understand how Virginia Tech received 61 points in AP voting to rank 25th in the land and Pitt received nine and is unranked. Now I think Pitt is going to win the game but I don't want to be too hasty in emphatically stating that there thing. I'm gonna cogitate on that matter, I is. And while I do I respectfully suggest that Hendon Hooker cogitate on the adequacy of his health care plan's coverage.
