I must apologize. I repeatedly called for law enforcement to use deadly force against the coup perpetrators today. Law enforcement would have been within their rights to do so, but also within their rights not to; in fact, more within their rights not to.
The coup perpetrators committed violent felonies but, aside from one of their number who was shot, their were no, that I read or saw, certainly not many, incidents of violence against persons and no life-threatening injuries.
This was the equivalent of an armed home invasion. Serious crime. Any homeowner would be entirely within his or her rights to "stand your ground" and use deadly force in response. But, not to use deadly force against armed home invaders is restraint of the most commendable moral order. It would have been unnecessary, morally disproportionate for law enforcement to use deadly force today. Although some of the coup perpetrators were armed, which increased the chances of deadly force being used to clear them, I never read or saw that they made threats with their firearms or discharged them (with the exception of the woman who was shot).
I have taken down the language I used in those posts. I substitute this language:
If Black Lives Matter had perpetrated this coup d'etat the police would have killed hundreds of them.
