Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy denounced French President Emmanuel 1) Macron’s refusal to call killings in Ukraine “genocide” and 2)his reference to Russians as a “brotherly” people.
“Such things are very painful for us, so I will definitely do my best to discuss this issue with him,” Zelenskiy said at a press conference n Wednesday with the visiting presidents of Poland and the Baltic states.
France and Germany declined Wednesday to repeat US President Joe Biden’s accusation that Russia was carrying out “genocide” against Ukrainians, warning that verbal escalations would not help end the war.
Instead, 1) Macron said leaders should be “careful” with the terminology on genocide in these situations, especially as 2) “the Ukrainians and Russians are brotherly peoples”.
Western leaders need to have a sit-down to straighten out their style manual. "Words the a president utters matter," President Biden said repeatedly during his campaign. He has shown increasing inattention to what he says. Just last week Biden refused to label Russian action "genocide." Now, he has flipped. There are good grounds to balk at labeling Russia's actions as genocide. So far so good for Macron. But then: 2) "the Ukrainians and Russians are brotherly people." That is the most special-ed thing I have heard Macron say in the war, it is not true. Period. And it comes right out of the Russian playbook that the two countries are essentially the same. Biden acknowledges that, once again, he was speaking from the heart and that the current situation may not pass muster under international law as "genocide." THEN SHUT THE FUCK UP, BIDEN! The far bigger foot fault today though was Macron's Union of Russian-Ukraine People. Macron is in a reelection fight against Marine Le Pen and he may be tacking right to win. If he is he is taking away from historical facts and current realities. Inexcusable by Macron.
