In addition to appealing Judge Cannon’s ruling, DOJ can ask the Eleventh Circuit for a stay of that ruling pending appeal (if it actually *needs* a stay). Whoever loses on *that* issue (whether to stay the ruling pending appeal) can then take that matter to #SCOTUS.

This ruling is preposterous—especially the part where it blocks the government from continuing to use materials already in its possession.
I sent the order to my (second) ex, also a retired lawyer, and texted her that it was "embarrassing." Cannon is from Miami, escaped Castro's communism with her family, was married in Coral Gables. The order is written like a pro-Batista fascist sympathizer. It's just awful, hardly the product of a learned mind. I hope DOJ takes Professor Vladeck's advice to appeal. I think it would be a horrible mistake to let that order stand. And Judge Cannon...there's nothing you can do. She can't be fired or replaced. She could be impeached, technically, but of course there's no chance of that. This ruling alone will kill any ambition she might have for a higher judicial seat. It's that bad.
