The House has moved into double-
digit votes, but there was renewed
...signs of a deal began to emerge late Thursday after holdouts appeared to
be swayed by the latest offer McCarthy made to them roughly 24 hours
earlier. After hours of negotiations on the floor that led to four
repeated failed votes for McCarthy, the impasse seemed to lessen — at
least for the moment.
I understand all of the words in that sentence--I understand English, generally.--but the words are not used in a sense that is meaningful to me, viz: "hours of negotiations" "led to four failed votes". What were they negotiating, how many times he would lose?; "the impasse seemed to lessen", "for the moment". Was the moment when the impasse seemed to lessen the moment they voted to adjourn? Which they did "late Thursday". After four failed votes. Which their hours of negotiations on the floor led to. Is that the cause of the "renewed optimism"? Is this liquid optimism?
According to three sources familiar with the deal, several holdouts are on the verge of agreeing to it and will vote in favor for McCarthy, though when that might happen remained unclear.
What do you mean, "when that might happen is unclear?” How about Friday? This month? The 12th of Never?
The expectation is that though McCarthy will not get all the votes necessary to become speaker, it will show considerable momentum for him.
Oh, he won't get all the votes necessary but he'll have Big Mo. How many divisions has Big Mo?

We're doing "phases"? Like, 🎵When the moon is in the Seventh House/And Jupiter aligns with Mars/Then peace will guide the planets/And love will steer the stars🎵? That's about as down to earth as these Republican phases, isn't it? Phase one is "the deal", right? Then phase two,
as both
conservative Republicans and moderates aggressively apply pressure to
the holdouts that remain until they can find a pathway for only four to
vote against McCarthy — the threshold he needs to get 218 necessary to
become speaker.
Sorta good cop, bad cop, no donut, huh? Let me ask you something Chief WaPo, okay? These phases weren't applied before Kid Kev went 0 for 11 at the plate? Is that because Kevin couldn't count? And kind, gentle phase one, "the deal", was pitched Wednesday night, "the night before", according to you. Were they still in phase one during negotiations today on the floor as Kevin was swinging and missing four times? Does it not strike you as odd Chief that Big Mo for Kevin would be produced by what "led to" Kevin going 0-4 today? Does it not make more sense that Big Mo would be on the side of those who have persecuted Kevin eleven consecutive times now? Seems a little half-baked and a little backasswards, but hey, that’s just me with a Democrats’ normal brain, no metal plates or anything, I don't know how the Republican brain works, nor how they use the English language, maybe this “reasoning” works for them, but the meaning is not lost here by any defect in my brain. Out.
