I have had stuck in my head all day, this: We have no past, we have no future. I thought it was from The Internationale, but it is not. It is not from anywhere that Google tells. Very well, it is mine.

The sentence has been in my head today because of the Miami "Heat." I startled myself by typing last night so starkly, "they have no future." As I thought back on the almost eight years since the breakup of the Big Three, they haven't had a future since! They have sold us on a future: on Hassan Whiteside and James Johnson and Goran Dragic and Dion Weighters. That was the most fun team to follow, Team Joy I called them. Then on Josh Richardson. Then Justise Winslow. Then Bam Adebayo and Jimmy Butler and Duncan Robinson--and that future came very near to realization. Then Kyle Lowry and PJ Tucker and it has all come undone. I used to look forward to "Heat" games. Other nights were boring. But I stopped following the "Heat"-"Hawks" game last night out of disgusted familiarity. And so...

I cannot follow Miami "Heat" games exclusively any longer. Their games are so uninteresting and put me in a dreary mood. There are far more exciting teams than Miami, teams with futures. Miami is as tired and as old, as unchanging and as bankrupt of new ideas as their president, Pat Riley. I am not switching fandom, the "Heat" are my team. I am just not following their games exclusively anymore.

Tonight's Association menu unfortunately is bland. I'm intrigued by the new ingenue, New York. Charlotte plays them in MSG tonight. The "Knicks" should ravish the Queens and they're 10-point favorites. Philadelphia at Minnesota is another semi-interesting matchup. If Nix-Chazz gets out of hand I may follow that one. Or go to bed early.
