A few years ago Manchester City was so dominant, so explosive that you could sense fear in opponents during the matches. You were liable to get embarrassed in front of your loved ones, friends, and fans. Even as one, a partisan to be sure, who was merely following the matches in print, and across an ocean, I could sense it. Opponents were hopeless; you could tell that City took a part of their soul.
If I were the "Lakers" after last night's closing blitz by Denver, I would feel the same way City's opponents did, like there's just no chance the "Lakers" will ever beat Denver.
And, to state the obvious, if I were Golden State right now, I'd feel the gig was up. We had our run, but now we ran into Secretariat, a comparison I made, with snapshots of that great horse, with City that year. "Secretariat is all alone! He's like a tremendous machine", the announcer of the Belmont Stakes called. I would feel, if I were Golden State, like I had run into a non-human tremendous machine in the "Celtics". Relentless, unstoppable by any sentient being.
