“Denver's a complex team"-Spoelstra

“They’re a complex team. We still only held them to 100. You feel like you have a handle on them and then all of a sudden, they can just separate in those skirmishes. ..."

Spoelstra's a very smart guy. Those are four smart things he said there in under two sentences. I noticed in the previous game, they just blew it open. They did after the "Heat's" hot start in the first last night and of course in the fourth. Riley's word "skirmishes". It was breath-taking. It's true, we held the defending champions to an even 100 points. That's an eye-opener in the morning. You think you have them figured out...I thought the same in the same words when we won Game Two of the Finals out there. I thought we would win the series. Last night the image was of a hand on the throat keeping us at arm's length. It may have been the control meaning that Spoelstra intends there, we've got them contained with our schemes, etc. No comment on talent, though. 99% of coachspeak when you lose is "He's just a great player", as if there's no earthly power that could contain him, whether it's Nikola Jovic or a random scrub. "Nothing we could do". For Spoelstra, there's always something he can do, some key he can turn to unlock the complex mystery.
