I detest forced sports nicknames, which is why I alter them to make fun of them. A nickname should be grown organically. That’s my view. But Utah Hockey Club…I don’t like that at all. On the other hand, it could be, and will be, worse:
A fan vote for the official team name and mascot is ongoing. The next round of voting closes on June 20, and there will be another round beyond that. The names that are still in contention are Mammoth, Yeti, Outlaws, Blizzard, Venom and Utah Hockey Club. A name will be chosen before the 2025-26 season.
Of those, I prefer Utah Hockey Club—by a mile.
I also have never thought that sky blue and black make an appealing color combination.
