NYT's write-up on their poll included this,

"...the shortest presidential election in modern American history."

Does it feel short to you? It doesn't to me! It feels interminable to me. Yesterday, I was almost completely devoted to following college tackle football I felt like I had my life back! Fun! The pursuit of happiness! I felt unburdened from politics for a day.

Obviously, the Times was referring to the Kamala vs trumpie race. That iteration of the campaign began on July 21. That's 107 days. Does that seem short to you? Not to me! I have been consumed by it. Every day, nearly every waking hour I have read and thought about the campaign. And this is just the current iteration. trumpie effectively has been running for three and one-half years! He made it official that he was running for president in 2024 on Nov. 15, 2022. That is 721 days! trumpie has been running against somebody for president since Nov. 15, 2022!  President Biden, trumpie's presumed opponent, announced that he would seek reelection on April 23, 2023. That is 526 days! 107, 526, or 721 days are objectively just not short periods of time.

How about relative to other countries, say, Mother England. They elected a new Prime Minister in 2024, too. Know how long their campaign was? 43 days! Now, that's reasonable, yet the shortest iteration of our campaign is more than twice as long. It's too long. Normal people with families and couches and jobs and hobbies and vacations should not be put through such demands on their time and attention, cannot devote the time and attention demanded of them, and do not devote that time and attention to the demands of the "modern American" election system.
