The Miami "Dolphins" were tilted in the first half today. Tua Tagovailoa got them right in a blistering half-time talking to.
“We just needed to get our head out of our ass. That was it."
Their heads were there for good reason. Two players were arrested--about a block from the stadium as they drove to the game! Star wide receiver Tyreek Hill was stopped by police for speeding/reckless driving. He was given a ticket for same. But he was also placed facedown on the roadway and handcuffed.
Seeing this, several "Dolphins" teammates pulled over. Defensive tackle Calais Campbell was also placed in handcuffs, police said for disobeying a direct order, presumably to stand back and not interfere.
The head of the arresting agency, the Miami-Dade Police Department, interfered with alacrity. At 1:05 pm (the game kicked off at 1:00):
At 4:14 pm she was master of the case:
The "Dolphins" immediately fell behind 14-0 and at half-time it was 17-7, whence Tua's head extraction procedure. In the third quarter he found Hill for an 80-yard touchdown, which Hill celebrated in the manner du jour:
"I've got a lot of respect for cops, but obviously everybody has bad apples in every situation," Hill said. "I want to be able to use this platform to figure a way to flip this and make it a positive on both ends -- on my end and then also Miami-Dade."
Both Hill and Campbell are Black. I know cops, I worked with and against them for forty years, have had overwhelmingly good with some bad, experiences with them, and I know Miami-Dade P.D. cops most of all, also overwhelmingly positive and some bad. Not knowing anything other than what I have written here, I think that rather than an instance of police racism, which is endemic, this was an instance of the cops having their heads where Tua Tagovailoa saw his teammates' at half-time.
