Newsom Strikes Back

California's governor fighting Texas "fire with fire." Today he introduced the Election Rigging Response Act and new congressional redistricting maps that will gain Golden State Democrats five new seats, matching the number that Abbott of Texas, following his Master Trump's direction, has proposed for the Lone Star State. Governor Newsom's plan will be temporary, if it passes, covering elections in 20026, 2028, and 2030 before reverting to the existing independent redistricting commission. The new California map will go for approval by the state's legislature Aug. 21. If voted out it will then appear on the ballot for California voters' approval in a special election that the governor has set for Nov. 4. That vote is necessary to overrule the state's good-government independent commission. So there are two hurdles that California must jump that Texas did not.

"We have the opportunity to de facto end the Trump presidency in less than 18 months. That's what's at stake."--Gov. Gavin Newsom

Texas Democrats, who absented themselves from their state to stall the Trump-Abbott putsch, had already been told by their lawyers to return. Convinced that Newsom's counter will neutralize Texas redistricting, they plan to return, perhaps as soon as Monday.

Gavin Newsom is fighting back, "fire with fire" as he said today. That is what Democratic voters have been telling their members of Congress and Senators for some time. Newsom is the Democratic leader who is giving Blue voters the red meat. For this bold, brave effort, Newsom becomes a, if not the, frontrunner for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2028.
