Victimland

Do the Ravens really need to celebrate 30 years since Art Modell moved the Browns to Baltimore with Cleveland in town Sunday?
YES!😀

The move has sparked outrage on the part of many Browns fans who lived through the horrible experience...

It was a dark and horrible time in Browns history...

...reminding Browns fans of that painful episode ...

...hundreds of thousands of Clevelanders were devastated...

...I have such vivid memories of so many Browns fans refusing to leave the Stadium after that last game in 1995, and watching them sob 😢...😂

"Cleveland is a sensitive city."

Fast forward fifteen years to 2010:

Cleveland fans reacted to LeBron James leaving for the Miami Heat in 2010 with widespread anger, humiliation, and a sense of betrayal, leading to jersey burnings, protests...

Anger and Betrayal
  • Public Humiliation:
Fans felt betrayed and embarrassed by the on-air announcement of "The Decision," believing it was a slap in the face to the city that had supported James for seven years.
  • Family-like Betrayal:
For many, the departure felt like a deep, personal and family-like betrayal, as if they had lost a son or a close relative.
  • ...
  • Visual and Verbal Reactions
    • Jersey Burnings:
Many fans burned LeBron James' jersey on national television, a potent symbol of the deep anger and rejection they felt towards him.
    • Protests and Chants:
Fans took to the streets to voice their opinions, with some booing his name and others creating a hostile atmosphere, even outside his house.
    • Scathing Criticism:
Cleveland sports fans and even Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert penned scathing letters and published statements calling James' actions a "cowardly betrayal" and a "slap in the face".
    A Deeply Personal Wound
    • Community Symbolism:
James was seen as the region's "king" and a hero who had reversed the team's fortunes, making his departure a significant personal loss for the entire community.
Fast forward another fifteen years to 2025:

Baltimore fans don’t need to feel sorry for Browns fans...

Oh yes they do! Everyone needs to feel sorry for "Browns" fans. And "Cavaliers" fans. They NEED their victimhood. Pity is their crack. They never get enough of it.

The Ravens Celebrating 30 years of football in Baltimore is completely understandable, but to do it with the Browns in town is a bridge too far.

[Baltimore] went on to win the Super Bowl after the 2000 season, just five years after landing in Baltimore, and one year after the Browns returned to play. They won it again after the 2012 season, with current Browns starting quarterback Joe Flacco as their QB. He also won Super Bowl MVP...
