Illiteracy in America

Mike McDaniel levees a not-so-subtle threat to his Dolphins players after Sunday’s catastrophic loss to Browns

Mike McDaniel drove a Chevy to the levy was his message to the players. Apparently.

That is how the lede read a couple of hours ago in https://atozsports.com/nfl/miami-dolphins-news/mike-mcdaniel-levees-a-not-so-subtle-threat-to-his-dolphins-players-after-sundays-catastrophic-loss-to-browns/, as you can still see in the url. It has since been corrected to the proper "levies".

At some point, the Orangemen are going to have to play some complimentary football.

Syracuse.com

There is not a whole lot to "compliment" Orangemen football on at this particular moment in the rent fabric of space-time but in a well-balanced tackle football team the O should "complement" the D and vice versa.
The point is, obviously, that there is a dearth of editors in fanzines and legacy media alike not catching these basic usage idiocies, and using said idiocies in the first place by pencils is meaningful evidence that writers who get published don't know the basics of the English language due to a failure in their educations, and are in need of remedial English instruction, which they will not get.

Americans are not all broke out with genius anyhow; truth be told we are a dim bulb casting debateable light that obfuscates rather than illuminates, but that's America 2.0.
