I just watched 26' of highlights and those teams were EXCELLENT. I compare them to the highlights I have seen of Pitt this year, and there's just no comparison. These teams are ELITE, they have five-star talent getting hundreds of thousands and millions of dollars. My beloved "Panthers" can't hold a candle to these two squads.
Miami's kicker missed three field goals but only drew blushes on one. The announcers said at the beginning of the game that the wind was gusting. That clearly affected Miami's kicker on one of his misses; the wind just pushed it wide.
Miami's defense, holy hell. Marcel Reed, A&M's superb QB, was sacked seven times and harassed almost continuously. He had one poorly-thrown ball on an INT. It looked like miscommunication between him and the receiver. The game-ending INT, yes it was in tight space, yes he threw behind the receiver--he shouldn't have thrown it, it was only third down and :28 left--but he threw completions in equally tight coverage on that same drive. He has a deft touch on the ball.
On O, Miami's Malachi Toney is faster and shiftier than greased lightning and strikes just as quickly. And Mark Fletcher, Jr. is a tank with the speed of a Ferrari.
You can grasp a lot in a game following the play-by-play but you miss things that are apparent to those watching live or on TV. Those were two excellent teams on Kyle Field today. Miami is a worthy victor.
