Murder Case Photographs - #14, Then and Now

Murder Case Photographs-#14, Then and Now

There was a little dyslexia around here in 1956 even among the most elite businessmen. Apparently this establishment was of such renown that it needed no name. "BEER AND WINE" (with the "N" written backwards) was all that needed to be said. Like "Sally's Do Drop Inn" in photo #13 the location of this bar is no longer remote but is a vacant lot in the middle of an African-American residential neighborhood. Unlike some other of the "Now" photographs that will be posted here, the "footprint" of this scene hasn't changed much. The street intersection is still there. Like a visible ghost the vacant lot is exactly where "BEER AND WINE" was. Therefore the 2006 photograph was shot from the same spot as was the 1956 photo. The same tall, spreading tree is present in the top left of both photographs as are the whispier, more narrow-limbed trees toward the center. The corner of the building on the right in the 2006 the photo is a church that was not there in 1956.
