"No Dot on ‘i,’ but Pitt Crosses the ‘t’s’ in a Return to Its Signature Script."-New York Times

Dateline, Saturday.
?
I just saw that now, just googled "Pitt football" and up it came. The Times is inscrutable sometimes. That headline is almost exactly one year behind the times, as it were. Pitt made the change in 2014 in the middle of the season. Why now?

And what is up with that headline?

The source.

2014-15.

circa 1976.

circa 1982.

Did the university ever dot the "i"? I don't know, I don't think so by the looks of it. That is not the proper style, it does not pass The New York Times style guide, and it is not historically accurate. They are pointing this out and sending it back for possible editorial revision...I guess the university could add a dot without much effort...Then the logo would pass the style and history tests.

Is this a big deal? Sort of a snooty thing for the Times to do. Sounds like something they'd do! Why now? Oh well, we don't really pay that much attention to the "toy department," you know; it was last year, was it? Well we just noticed. WHY would any NORMAL HUMAN BEING think about the Pitt "i" not being dotted?!

Are they really doing this? Am I really thinking about this?! I don't know and yes I am. That is what the Times does! They see these things, it is their attention to detail,--Like Maureen Dowd's column on the child rape scandal at "Penn."--they have great attention to detail, and they see Significance in these details. They share their sightings with the rest of us to educate us, so that we may think like they think, see the things that they see. David Brooks saw a "very good" president in a "perfectly creased pant leg." You may not have noticed that, you may not have thought it significant had you noticed it, you may not have thought it normal to see a president in a pant leg. You may not have thought that because you are normal and not a weirdo so Dave shared that with us.

Hey Times, did you know that Apple has added this emoji to its phone lexicon?

Oh, sorry!
