The University of Pittsburgh fired men's basketball coach Kevin Stallings today. Stallings just completed his second year of a five year contract, a season that ended with an 8-24 record, 0-19 in Atlantic Coast Conference play. Pitt was 16-17, 4-14 his first year.
Stallings was a curious hire by then athletic director Scott Barnes. He had been at Vanderbilt for 17 years, too long for many who wanted him fired for insufficient team success.
Stallings replaced Jamie Dixon who was allowed to take the job at TCU after 14 years at Pitt. Under Dixon Pitt basketball had unprecedented success but the team had regressed his last few years and as with Stallings many, including this idiot blogger, thought a change was needed. Kevin Stallings was the change Pitt did not need.
