Want to Break Away?

@Football__Tweet

Manchester City's next 6 Premier League games:

Huddersfield (h)
Wolves (a)
Newcastle (h)
Fulham (h)
Cardiff (a)
Brighton (h)

The title will be won by September. 😂😂

Dreary, dreary me. Is it time for another break away? Twenty-two clubs broke away from the Football League in 1992 and under the auspices of the Football Association formed the Premier League. The reason? TV money. The relegation system with the Football League remained in place. The Premier League has been wildly successful financially and restored the competitiveness of English football.

Twenty teams are too many, however. The Premier League has always been top heavy but has become increasingly so. Look at City's next six matches. All six recently promoted clubs. They have no chance, NO CHANCE, of winning the Premier League. Those clubs are not in City's league as competition but they are literally in City's league.

Ten teams originally threatened to break away from the Football League to form the Premier. That is too little but how about sixteen? It makes no sense as competition or financially for Manchester City to be playing Town. Realign along financial lines, actual and potential, and you'd keep Newcastle from that list. If you shrunk the EPL to 16 you would at least get rid of four. That would make more sense.
