Footsies

Last call Ells and Gees. #16 Miam-uh was wind-sheared down from a hurricane to a tropical depression by the Charlottesville "Cadavers," 16-13.

My God, the Iowa State "Cyclops" doused the #6 West Virginia "Flaming Davenports" 30-14! in Ames.

Continuing our popular advice column NEVER, ever make investment decisions based upon the predictions of an Idiot Blogger self-styled Often Wrong, Always Certain. To wit: Arkansas is beating Mississippi 33-24 early in the 4Q; to witless: Michigan was ten-point favorites at Wisconsin tonight, they could have been 20 point picks and still covered. They lead 38-13 with under 4' left in the game. I am going to request the court's indulgence on this one. I read Wisconsin on top Michigan on bottom and reverted to the usage common to the EPL where the home team is listed first. I thought the game was in Madison. Would I have taken Michigan giving 10 points if I had realized the game was in Ann Arbor? I would not have taken Wisconsin. Maybe I wouldn't have touched the game because I didn't have an abiding conviction.

And...I think that's it. Night y'all yinzers.

Oh my goodness. With 58 seconds left and trailing 17-14 Michigan Spartak had the ball at their own 35 when the quarterback threw a quick out to the 40. A Paterno-Sandusky Child Rapist jumped in front of the receiver in a play that often leads to a pick six. But the Child Rapist, perhaps realizing it was not a child but a football that had just popped into his lap, DROPPED THE BALL!

MSU moved down to the PSU 25. On third and two with 19 seconds left "Brian" "Lewerke" threw a horrible pass, so underthrown that the receiver had to stop and come back a step to get the ball. Which caused THE SAME Child Rapist who had dropped the INT with :58 to FALL DOWN! The receiver stepped away from the flailing Child Rapist and into the end zone with the winning touchdown.

THAT is the kind of game that will cause fans to go home and beat the wife and, since this is PSU, to rape the children.

It is the second year in a row that Sparty has bung-holed Paterno-Sandusky. In identical circumstances too, coming off a tough loss to THE State University of Ohio at 'Umbus, PSU's only two losses last year and their only two so far this year. They have some TOUGH games coming up though: at #12 Meesagan November 3 and the very next week against the "Boogers" in Moonie Valley.

Speaking of, Meesh and Wisc are knocking the boogers out of each other in the People's Republic of Madison as we write. Michigan up 13-7 early in the turd.

#17 Oregon beat #7 Washington nobody cares.

TOUGH, TOUGH! loss for PSU today, my God.

7:39 pm

Holy hell Michigan Spartak beat #8 Paterno-Sandusky 21-17 in Moonie Valley.

Holy Jeezus #13 ElEsU penned the #2 Dawgs 36-16 in Red Stick.

#9 Texas in a close one against the Baylor "Wacos" 23-17 in Awstin.

Oh my goodness, #10 Central Florida came from down 30-14 two minutes before the half to beat Memphis in FedExVille 31-30.

Nebraska: Nebraska blew a 10-point lead in the final 5:41 in regulation and fell to 0-6 for the first time ever...Northwestern kicked a field goal, then drove 99 yards after getting pinned at the 1 with 2:02 left...Nebraska got the first shot in overtime after Northwestern deferred and a low snap in a shotgun formation on fourth-and-1 at the 16 did in the Cornhuskers. Martinez scooped up the loose ball around the 30, heaved it to the end zone from the 37 and got intercepted by JR Pace.

Rutgers: "When you struggle to run the ball and protect the quarterback, and you struggle to get open against man-coverage and make turnovers, it's going to be tough to win the game," Rutgers coach Chris Ash said.

And don't score until 43 seconds left in the game.

Freshman quarterback Artur Sitkowski was pulled late in the third quarter after going 2 for 16 for 8 yards and four interceptions...Backup Giovanni Rescigno threw one pass -- and it was picked off

The offense deserves plenty of blame, but the Scarlet Knights couldn't even handle a kickoff correctly. After Johnson's 65-yard touchdown run late in the first quarter finally put the Terrapins on the board, the ensuing kickoff was high and short . Maryland snagged it on the first hop, setting up a field goal for a 10-0 lead.

Maryland caught its own kickoff.

The rebuilding Scarlet Knights have a long way to go toward being competitive in the Big Ten. Playing against a team that is anything but a powerhouse, Rutgers came up with a clunker of a performance.

Connecticut: With UConn off this weekend before facing South Florida on Oct. 20, coach Randy Edsall has turned his attention to recruiting.

Parents, bar your doors.

The Huskies’ class ranks 136th nationally and last in the American Athletic Conference...

Why does UConn have so few commits?

ARE YOU STOOPID?

Well it probably has to do with where the program stands. Seven (soon to be eight) straight losing seasons can make life difficult on the recruiting trail. The last time UConn finished with a winning record, today’s high school seniors were in elementary school.

#5 Notre Dame du overrated lac 19, Pittsburgh 14. Turn on the Moral Victory Lights.

Purdue 36 Illinoise 7, 10:06 3Q. Tune out the noise of Often Wrong, Always Certain predictions.

Kansas State crushed Okie State 31-12 in Little Manhattan. Mike Gundy is not a man.

Duke, a "no show" last week in a beat down at home to Va Tech, took the sting out of the Rambling Yellow Jackets in Hotlanta 28-14.

Pitt's defensive line hangs onto a slim halftime lead thanks to a pair of sacks and a QB hurry in the final minute of the second quarter. Panthers have been the better team at the line of scrimmage so far today.

Northwestern 34 Nebraska 31 FT

Pay no attention to anything I say.

2:08 pm

Mary 27 Rutgers 0...Mary 34 Rutgers 0, 7:47 3Q lol.

11:58 am

The Angels do not play this weekend because of...that thing.

The Beloveds play #5 Notre Dame by du lac. The "Lakers" are 21.5 point favorites.

Pitt under Pat Narduzzi has had some terrific upsets: at #2 Clemson in 2016 as 22 point dogs; last year of #2 Miami (12 point pups).

Pitt and Notre Dame have played 70 times over the years. Notre Dame has won 48 of them. Pitt is not a rivalry game for Notre Dame; they are called a "traditional opponent". Pitt has played Notre Dame tough in recent years: a triple OT loss in South Bend in 2012 when ND was #3; a win in 2013; a three point loss in 2011; wins in 2008 and 2009. Before today's game you have to go back fourteen games, to 1997, for a Notre Dame win by as much or more than today's point spread. Too, Brian Kelly's Notre Dame teams sometime have closer than expected wins over inferior opponents, e.g. a six point win over Ball State this season and a five point win the next week over Vanderbilt.

As in the vast majority of meetings Notre Dame has more talent than has Pitt today. The game is in South Bend; Notre Dame is well in the running for a spot in the college football playoffs: a Pitt win is not a reasonable outcome. Will Pitt be competitive today?  They have not been against highly ranked opponents this year: a 45 point destruction by PSU, a 31 point shellacking at Central Florida. Those two losses bespeak the yawning talent gap between Pitt and top teams and Notre Dame is more highly ranked than those two teams. The CW is that Notre Dame is overrated. I do believe that conventional wisdom. So maybe ND is "only" as good as #8 PSU or #10 UCF.

"Irish" coach Brian Kelly says that what distinguishes this Notre Dame team from last year's is "confidence." Don't know where that was against Ball State and Vandy but Kelly knows his team and confidence is a mighty big factor. You can't play up to your capabilities if you doubt. So no, Pitt will not be competitive today. Notre Dame is going to kill Pitt. It'll be worse than 21.5 points.

                                                                 ...

West Virginia, #6, is at Iowa State today. The "Cyclops" beat Okie State at Okie State last week. The "Flaming Davenports" are 5.5 point faves.

#12 Michigan is at #15 Wisconsin. Wolves are 10-point picks. I like Wisconsin getting ten points at home.

Rutgers is at Maryland. That is a B1G game, that is not a big game. That is an embarrassment.

Nebraska (0-6) is at 2-3 Northwestern. And Northwestern is only 3.5 point picks?! The bettors know something! I don't know what. I disagree with my betters on that point spread. Nebraska has not gotten closer than five points in any loss this year, and those to Troy and to Colorado at home. They're going to go on the road and do better than that? No.

Purdue will win by ten or more at Illinoise? No.

Mississippi is a 6.5 pick at Arkansas. Mississippi will cover that.
