On the exhilarating tailwinds of their 114-113 win over the 12th place "Hawks," a team they had not beaten this season before last night, the 10th place Miami "Heat" jet to Charlotte today for another Titanic Tilt against the 9th place "Queens" against whom they are also o-fer the season.

Newly zenned Miami septuagenarian Maximum Leader Pat Riley decreed over the weekend "Heat" fans "enjoy" such battles for 8th place (and Senior Tour duels between 42-year old Vince Carter and 37-year old Dwyane Wade like last night) during this special period of sustained mediocrity now almost three years in progress with no end in sight as, presumably, short pants football fans enjoy clashes between Bournemouth and Leicester.

Except we don't.

Like Leicester Miami were once kings with a King of their own. Like Leicester, since the King's Power departed Miami has taken up temporary, presumably, residence on anonymous, irrelevant 8th Place in Mediocre Town where Charlotte and Atlanta are permanent residents, next door to the Laker family, also fallen royalty, who have been there six long years, soon to be seven after their loss last night, their former King's new family who he has not been able to lift out of Mediocre Town.

As he contentedly whiles away the rosy hours of career and life, added comfort to Pat Riley: God must have loved the middle classes, He made so many of them.
