Steve-o correctly sees the current American political divide. Gone is the traditional right-left Republican-Democratic street intersection representation with voters clustering close to the center and candidates, like gas station operators, opening shops where the most drivers are.
The accurate representation now would be of a bifurcated super-highway diagonal going above and cutting across the intersection, obviating the old left-right continuum and having no center of convergence.
The segments are pro-democracy and anti-democracy. Steve has abandoned his old GOP car on Authoritarian Street and has hopped into the only vehicle traveling on Democracy Avenue, the Democratic Party.
Steve is one of the rare ones to see this new representation. I've said it before, the founders of Lincoln Project deserve their own Mount Rushmore. In an interview yesterday following his announcement Steve sounded like Winston Churchill as Hitler rose. We can never again elect an autocrat, Steve said, because that may be the last election we ever have.
