"... There’s a time frame that makes sense, and we’ll play out that time frame right now. There’s no question that they can do it. It’s just going to take longer than we expected.”-Heather Lyke on Jeff Capel, Feb. 7.
It is not clear if the time frame is this season or Capel's tenure at Pitt. This is his fourth season and he is signed through 2026-27 after being given a two-year extension in 2020.
Lyke has spoken previously of Capel's need to build relationships with players. It is not clear if she was asked yesterday or volunteered but she said on that issue, "...this is a team that’s dialed in. They care about one another. They’re unselfish. They believe in coach Capel and what he’s teaching them. He has not lost the team by any stretch." If it was a question it was an obvious one. The "Dribbling Panthers" are 8-16 and dead last in the ACC at 3-10. They got creamed last night at Virginia Tech, have lost four straight and six of seven.
