Oh my goodness, this fucking religion, still stuck in the 7th century, just cannot get on in the 21st. An Indian Hindu politician, Napur Sharma, spokesperson for the Hindu nationalist party BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party), made a statement in a debate on Indian television on May 27 that has led to her dismissal, to the summoning of, and in some cases recall of ambassadors from, and widespread protests in, Islamic nations.
What did Ms. Sharma say? Try to find it. I read the articles that both NPR and the BBC have on the contretemps and neither of those eminently proper sources repeated it in print or even generally referred to the subject matter. Clearly, un-fucking-ambiguously, self-censorship--"to be sensitive to", IN FEAR OF, the wrath of Islam. Next, I googled the woman, read parts of a few badly-translated articles that didn't mention the substance, or again not even the ballpark the remarks were in. I did see the name "Aisha" in a few headlines but not knowing who the fuck Aisha was I skipped them. I google-video'd Napur Sharma. One three-minute vid, nada; one nine-minute thing, same. Finally, a 21+ minute video here.
Some fucking guy with tattoos all over his fucking face. I turned on closed-caption and read as I skipped around. FINALLY, at 13:16:
Nupur Sharma said the Prophet Muhammad married a six-year old named Aisha. Tattoo Face goes on to show his own screenshots from standard reference websites like Wikipedia to verify. It's verified. Once I realized Aisha's centrality to the storm I wikipedia'd her my ownself.
Al-Tabari [a AHADITH, okay? No, I don't know what a fucking ahadith is! I take it it’s some sort of authoritative commentary, I'll look it up now...I guess the plural is "ahadith". One is called a hadith, which is really fucking annoyingly confusing. The ahadith as a whole, every fucking hadith out there, is “what the majority of Muslims believe to be a record of the words, actions, and the silent approval of the Islamic prophet Muhammad as transmitted through chains of narrators," OKAY?]. So Al-Tabari's hadith says she [Aisha] was nine at the time her marriage was consummated.[31] Sahih al-Bukhari's
hadith says "that the Prophet married her when she was six years old
and he consummated his marriage when she was nine years old."[32]
Other sources differ on the age of marriage, but agree that the
marriage was not consummated at the time of the marriage contract. Fuck other sources and the camels they rode in on, we’re going with 9 years-old when Mo fucked her. Why do I have to learn about this from Tattoo Face? Why the fuck do NPR and the BBC, and, and, and report that there's some upset on the subcontinent occasioned by an Indian's remarks about Islam, but no one but Tattoo Face even hints at what the woman said?Don’t report on it then. Headline: “There’s a War.” Okay. That’s it? Where? Between whom? Why? “Not tellin’”. Fuck YOU then.
So Tattoo Face asks the logical follow-up: "What is INCORRECT about what Nupur Sharma said?", and I understand, or, not understand, I glean, that Ms. Sharma, as a good Hindu, made that statement of fact about Muhammad in a critical light. TOUGH. If that's all Nupur Sharma said then Islam can go fuck itself and the camels Muhammad fucked before he fucked 9 year-old Aisha.
