"Born of a Dream, Died of a Dream"*: The Failure of the American Republic (18th century-21st century)

Posted the lede this morning but didn't read.

Two new versions of Omicron are gaining ground in the U.S., according to C.D.C. estimates.

The spread of the subvariants adds more uncertainty to the trajectory of the pandemic in the United States.

I've been despondent many times over this thing.

The Omicron subvariants known as BA.4 and BA.5 now represent 13 percent of new coronavirus cases in the United States, up from 7.5 percent a week ago and 1 percent in early May, according to new estimates from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

I have nothing to say that I haven't said many times previously. Sum: We're not good enough; we are not very good--we have twice as many deaths as the next country (India. India!); the virus is better, and faster, than we are; the vaccines are flawed and they are our whole strategy; "Next". We will continue to fuck this up.
