Last week the Charlotte "Hornets" offered and Golden State assistant Kenny Atkinson accepted the head coaching position, replacing James Borrego who the franchise fired at the conclusion of the the season just past. There are only thirty of those head coach gigs in the universe so it was s.o.p. that an assistant would jump at the opportunity. However, Atkinson, jumped off. Adrian Wojnarowski:
After accepting Charlotte's job offer during the NBA Finals last week, further conversations with the Hornets' organization led Atkinson to believe that both professionally and personally it would be best to remain with the Warriors, sources said.
That's embarrassing, but s.o.p. in Charlotte. The franchise has been ineptly run since inception. George Shinn, Bob
Johnson, Michael Jordan--none of the owners have ever been able to grab
their ass with both hands. CBS speculates reasonably that the decision to swat the "Hornets,"
...may be as simple as Atkinson wanting to stay in the Bay Area, where
he can compete for titles, coach some of the best players of this
generation and work for a top organization.
Yes, it is probably as simple as that.
