I don’t see how the org. can sign Jimmy to an extension. Remember when Kyrie Irving “completed” his last COVID season in Brooklyn having played only half the games? The BKLN GM said that summer, “We need guys who can play every day.” Pissed Irving off and they traded him to the Fat Cuban Horse. Well, what is the “Heat” to do with Jimmy this summer? He doesn’t play every game or near every game. How can you stake your basketball and financial future to him when he is going to be 35 in September? He has no interest in playing every game during the regular season. We have finished 8th in the conference two years running. The team has been .500 when Jimmy, Bam, and Tyler Herro all play together. How many wins have we averaged for ten straight seasons?
Where is the future in that? Spo used something like 37 different starting lineups due to injury, absence, his own tinkerer’s fetish. We cannot continue on this path. The org. is going to lose Greater Miami with another 45-37, another 8th place, another season of Jimmy playing three-quarters of the games. If we trade for another “whale” and give up our younger players how are we better off with, say, Kevin Durant (36), Jimmy (35), Bam, Flotsam and Jetsam? The new CBA is against super-teams and for building a roster out. How many games are KD and Jimmy going to play that new season? The ☀️ won 49 games this season, finished sixth in the West and got 🧹 in the playoffs. They had KD, Booker and Beal.
I don’t know if there is a market for Jimmy at his age, with his injury history, at his salary, but I don’t see the future in “running it back.” Makes me nauseous to think of running it back.
