Why is Charlotte called the "49'ers"? You tellin' me there was a Gold Rush in them thar C'lina hills?...They had a mint, didn't they? I seem to remember from my numismatic days the "C" mintmark on gold coins. Maybe they did find gold there. Weren't much if they did, I'll tell ya that. Hardly worth confusing folks with why they're named the "49'ers".
