The first time I went to Paris we arrived late at night. Jet-lagged and not yet ready to sleep I took our baby, my son, for a walk in his stroller. It was cool and misty and we walked down narrow, unfamiliar streets. Buildings on either side obscured vision beyond our immediate path. I turned a corner hesitatingly and a spaceship seemingly had landed right in front of us, its landing lights on legs straddling blocks gradually disappearing in the fog as they tapered skyward.
