A close, 121-118, loss and another inspired effort by Miami in a back to back against another excellent team, Houston. Inspired efforts in wins or losses, The Big Picture doesn't lie.

2019 Gallup World Leadership Poll
Over 1,000 people interviewed in 133 countries. Approval of leadership in four countries: U.S., Russia, China, Germany.
Germany 39%
China 34%
U.S. 31%
Russia 30%
And that is an improvement (albeit of only 1%) of the U.S. raw percent from the 2018 survey. Russia's approval is up 3% to its highest since 2008. China's is highest since 2009. Relatively this is the first time ever that the U.S. has been behind China.

God damn it. I forgot that there was Premier League play today. Three huge results.
First, Liverpool got off the schneid with a complete destruction of 'Arry the Elk 'Ornet, 5-0 at Fenway.
City got past tough West Ham but just barely, 1-0. Liverpool thus close the gaping 10 goal difference between the two contenders to a plausible six in one match! Ten to go. Boy oh boy did Liverpool need that result today.
Chelsea eased pressure on Maurizio Sarri with an impressive 2-0 scoreline over Tottenham and, I am sure, reinforced doubts of Spurs' nous and increased same on Mauricio Pochettino's ass.
Four big results: MUFC stayed hot, despite playing with like ten men out to injury, with a decisive 3-1 win over Crystal Palace in London.
Five...Which is also the number of times Arsenal scored at Emirates over Bournemouth, who only answered one.
And (No, not six), in a Coca-Cola Classic Southie leapt out of the trap door with a 2-0 win over condemned Fulham.
It is a two team race at the very top with Livers +1 (-6) over City. There is then a substantial gap (-8) down to three, Spurs, a not insubstantial -4 to four, Arsenal, and then one point down to United and three more down to Chelsea. Those four clubs will battle for the remaining two slots in next year's Champions League. Big day, goddammit.

As Donald Trump and Kim Jong un meet in Vietnam to defuse nuclear tensions on the Korean peninsula recrudescence between nuclear armed India and nuclear armed Pakistan has escalated on the subcontinent. It began with a cross-border suicide bomber in Kashmir killing dozens of Indian soldiers. India responded with cross-border aerial incursions, the first in decades, that seemed designed to do nothing but plow remote mountain fields. But today Pakistan has shot down an Indian plane or two and has paraded a pilot as captive.
These two foes have a practised routine of tit for tat that each understands is to prevent escalation. Parading captive pilots is not recognized as part of that routine.

Random thoughts come at random times and tonight those thoughts are on Neville Chamberlain's short address to the House of Commons that Britain was at war with Germany. The date was September 3, 1939. Chamberlain concluded his announcement with these remarks:
This is a sad day for all of us, and to none is it sadder than to me. Everything that I have worked for, everything that I have hoped for, everything that I believed in during my public life, has crashed into ruins.
“Everything”...”everything”...”everything” “crashed into ruins,” shattered. For all time, forever.

“Everything”...”everything”...”everything” “crashed into ruins,” shattered. For all time, forever.
Who can read those lines and not feel a stab of pain in the heart?
I trust I may live to see the day when Hitlerism has been destroyed...
His trust again was misplaced. Neville Chamberlain died on November 9, 1940.
Hope, and trust; and hard work, and belief; love of peace; and faith in God; the noblest of mankind’s virtues: what weigh these against the ashes of Neville Chamberlain?

Javad Zarif, Iranian Foreign Minister, Negotiated JCPOA, Resigns Suddenly
Who? You'll know him when you see him.
Kerry's main walking buddy besides Sergey Lavrov. Spent years, miles, negotiating the nuclear deal, which Trump walked back, with John-John.
Ayatollah Khamenei put faith in President Hassan Rouhani who put faith in Zarif who put faith in Kerry to negotiate in good faith a fair, "joint comprehensive" nuclear limitations agreement with the hated Americans. That faith through all of those faith links was misplaced for the world recognizes that the America 2.0 regime is a failing state, illegitimate, not to be trusted and not trusted. Iran was certified to be in compliance with the JCPOA but Trump, doing the bidding of Israel and Saudi Arabia, refused to sign the certification and is preparing to war on Iran and Zarif, announcing his resignation today on Instagram, wrote of his "inability to continue to serve" as foreign minister. Iran will now restart its nuclear program and prepare for war itself.
There is no nation in the world so capable of greatness, with whom the U.S. should work, could work, did work, that is yet so demonized by the America 2.0 regime that no work can get done, as is Iran.

Who can turn the world on with her smile?
Who can take a nothing day, and suddenly make it all seem worthwhile?
Well it's you girl, and you should know it
With each glance and every little movement you show it
Love is all around, no need to waste it
You can have the town, why don't you take it
Whaddya think?

When I first heard this I was in my car. It was just a segment, one of NPR's brief musical interludes. "What is that?," I think I asked myself aloud. It was so familiar yet. After NPR went back to Bob Edwards or whomever I turned the radio off and hummed from memory more of the piece so I could remember. "The Goldberg Variations! But..." The Goldberg Variations are almost always played on piano as Glenn Gould did most famously. This was strings. The Sitkovetsky variation on The Goldberg Variations.
A miracle. To my ear, better than on piano.

If Liverpool are going to win the league, it feels like today was the final game they could afford to be this insipid in attack. If their 2019 form so far persists in the run-in, they can forget it.

This a run down of the logos of the four new Major League Soccer franchises coming on board 2019, 2020 (two) and 2021.
2019 FC Cincinnati
2020 Inter Miami CF
2020 Nashville SC
2021 Austin FC
Ranking them now (subjective, this) by best to worst, or in this case by least bad to causes nausea, possibly blindness and madness:

By the Numbers: 112-115, 2+71% years; 26-32, .448
That projects to barely 37 wins over 82 and the win percentage is now lower than than the first season post-Lebron. .448 would be the lost since 2007/2008, the 15-67 debacle.
New: Castle Down Going Down Town 2-0
#15 against dead last #20. Two bad teams. Yet, every player on both sides can do things with a football that make normal people gape in awe. I watched the two minutes or so of highlights on ESPN and the difference between the players on these sides and those at the opposite end of the table is a matter of inches and of milliseconds. Newcastle had a break on goal. The Newcastle guy timed his shot well, shot it where it had to go, just out of the goalkeeper's reach to his right but it bounced off the post. A Newcastle fan right behind goal did a a-shot-rang-out-and-President-Kennedy's-head-slumped-onto-Mrs.-Kennedy. The Newcastle guy tried to get a second crack at the ball with a roundhouse left leg but—Good thing he wasn't fast enough!—the ball bounded right to the foot of a trailing Rook...who knocked it off the same post! Argh!
That's the difference right there. A Kun Aguero, a Mo Salah, wouldn't have missed the first shot and a Harry Kane or Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang wouldn't have missed the rebound. Those inches and those milliseconds are the difference between champagne and Coca-Cola.

Now, what do you think of this?
I confess that I am not partisan of green. However, that is a bright enough green that I like! I like "Austin" boldly at top and I like the image of the lung in tribute to Austin's cutting edge medical service. They got it upside down, but no problem, we'll just orient the lung to the logo.
The Austin "Green Lungs." Alright, Austin is proudly weird, fine, the "Green Lungs" it is. Sounds pretty gross but it looks pretty good!
I am in the majority for once on the Nashville SC logo:

112-115
That’s Miami’s composite record with the present core group of players assembled by Pat Riley, i.e over two full seasons plus 70% of this season, a .495 winning percentage. So that’s pretty pathetic. But wait it gets worse.
The first season 2016/17 was the miraculous 41-41, two halves that were 11-30/30-11 mirror images of each other. The next full season, last season, saw a little improvement of three games. Not much but improvement, to 44-38, a .537 win percentage.
But this season, oy vey. Through 70% of the schedule the “Heat” are winning at only .456. That projects to 37 wins over 82 games. Down six wins from last season and four off the 41-41 2016/17 season. It would be the lowest win percentage since the season, 2014/15, after LeBron left.
In other words “continuity” has made the “Heat” WORSE.
Look, there is no way around this: Pat Riley has completely botched the “Heat’s” rebuilding post-LeBron, and the lavish, long-term contracts he saddled the franchise with to maintain “continuity” have made the “Heat” outlook for the next few years more more “bleak” than just about any other team in the league.

Titles Are Not Won on Draws
A generic win, i.e. by any score, will be sensational for Liverpool. But what if they draw? What if they lose?
A generic draw will put them one little peepy point up on City but leave them nine goals behind. +1 point with 11 matches to play? That ain't shit.
A generic loss will put them level with City on points and -10 or more behind. Better to draw, certainly.
But the score is not going to be generic. The 0-0 draw at home with Bayern was a bad look by Liverpool. Why? Because at 0-0 you're impotent. If they had drawn, say 4-4 with Bayern, well, look at the size of my dick. 0-0 is limp dick. If Liverpool draw 0-0 at United they will have gotten a point and proved they have no nous. They're still shooting blanks. If they draw 4-4 with United then they still get only one little peepy point but they will have proven they have a BIG peepy.
If they lose, a 1-0 loss would be a killer, the worst. A 2-1 loss, as they lost at City, would be better. A shoot-out, say 4-3, would be as good as a loss gets. "Yeah bitch, I came into your house and fucked your wife three times." A blow-out, like United's 6-1 loss to City at Old Trafford...You don't want to lose 6-1...But a blow-out loss can be almost more acceptable than a 1-0 loss. "Everybody has a bad day. It wouldn't have mattered if we scored three or four or five goals, we still would have lost." There's an excuse for impotence in a blow-out loss.
This race is not going to be decided on goal difference. It's going to be decided the old fashioned way, on points. Champions win titles. Liverpool need to win this match. Period there.

If Liverpool blow the league this year...I disagree that they blew the league on the Gerrard Slip in 2014; I did not think that then, I do not think that now. City had the advantage then. LFC's lead was a chimera...If LFC don't win it this year then they will have blown it, truly.
I will go further: If Liverpool don't win the Premier League this year then they will not win the league with this manager and this group of players. I said that about City in 2012, I say that now. If City had not beaten QPR on the last day of the season to win the league they were never going to win it with Roberto Mancini and those players.
Liverpool has the advantage this year. Their QPR game...Well. Nothing, EVER will top that QPR game...The Manchester United match Sunday is a...kinda near analog for Liverpool of City's QPR match.
City proved its nous in that match, they have reproved it time and again, most recently at Schalke on Wednesday. Liverpool's players have never been in a match even "kinda near" that QPR game. They haven't proved their nous, they haven't proved squat. And if you believe the reports they're shitting as they squat.
OH. I didn't see this.
LIVERPOOL, BAYERN DRAW 0-0 IN CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FIRST LEG
That was Tuesday. And that was at Anfield. Bayern are good! Just second best to Dortmund in the Bundesliga right now. Scoreless. Ooh. Couldn't get it up. Nerves, you see. Is that a harbinger of Sunday at Old Trafford? Hope so, don't know but hope so.

Discovering the Rothko Chapel Paintings, Finis
After Epiphany Friday I went back to the Rothko Chapel both of my last two days in Houston but did not stay as long on either day as I had on Friday. A couple of hours Saturday and about an hour Sunday.
The ladies had loosened up, had warmed to me a little, greeted me friendly, chatted me up, let me breathe--"He's okay, he's from Miami, came here just for this."--even bragged on me a little. "He's all the way from Miami! Been here every day."
Saturday I deliberately went back in the afternoon. The chapel is dark-ish--It's a chapel!--and the high noon sunlight does make a difference (in your appreciation of the paintings if not in your meditation). The light brings the paintings to life.
That was my discovery in Houston in 2004. Mark Rothko made animate objects out of inanimate objects. I left Sunday and came back to Rothko Chapel, Little Israel, Miami Beach. I did not discover a cure for my lethargy.

Discovery of the Rothko Chapel Paintings, VI
It was just a long weekend, a Thursday to a Sunday.
Friday morning I got up and headed to the Rothko Chapel. There were one or two other people in the chapel at the time, one, to my annoyance seated on the forward bench right in from of the dark purple painting. I went around looking at the other paintings. I like to get close to paintings, I want to see the artist's brush strokes. This excites museum staff who are wary the close inspector is going to deface the paintings ot to breathe on the painted surface and cause some chemical reaction the the detriment of the painting. I knew that about museum staff and they did not know me and so told me not to get too close. I sat on a bench in front of one of the bluish side paintings. The person was still sitting on my bench in front of my big dark purple painting so I went around the octagon room to the other paintings, forewarning the staff that I just wanted to see the brushwork for a few seconds and wouldn't breathe. "You still can't get too close, sir." They were two women.
Finally the annoying person on the bench in front of the dark purple painting left and I took my rightful place. I stayed in front of that painting until lunch time, most of the time on the bench, some of the time sitting on the floor in front of the bench.
When I left the two staff women assumed I was gone for the day and wished me good day. I told them that I would be back after lunch. When I returned the bench in front of the purple painting was unoccupied and I plopped myself back down.
My memory is it was then, after lunch, perhaps owing to a change in the light coming from the sun roof opening above, that I first felt the purple painting change. The color changed and it vibrated. I could now pick out sections of the painting that, owing to Rothko's single stroke, horizontal brushwork cum paint drip, were painted lighter, others darker, it was a monochrome but it was not uniformly a monochrome, there were lighter and darker shades of dark purple. The subtle variations in light made by the brushwork caused the monochrome to come alive, that is the best way I can put it, the painting did not throb or pulsate, it was more subtle than that--the brushwork gave the painting life and I thrilled to it. It was an animate object.
When I left at around 4 pm that first day I had a satisfied warm glow to me and told the two staff women how much I liked the chapel and the paintings. They made small talk back and warmed to me. They had watched me now for several hours and were no longer concerned that I might deface the paintings. The next two days I was permitted to breathe.

They had watched me now for several hours and were no longer concerned that I might deface the paintings. The next two days I was permitted to breathe.

In 2004 I had come off a murder trial. I had been exclusively a homicide trial lawyer for nineteen years. I knew how long it took me to prepare for a homicide trial, how long the trial would last, and I knew how long my recuperation period was before I could try another one--two weeks. I needed one week to get my energy back and then a second week to meet with and prepare my witnesses and to put the finishing touches on a case previously prepared.
After this 2004 murder trial however i did not get my energy back. One week, okay, normal; two weeks, huh?; three weeks, four weeks, whoa. Something was wrong, I was not recuperating. The only thing I remember specifically doing for those four weeks to shake my lethargy was to take Geritol. Which didn't work. I had a fire that burned and throbbed in me when I worked, and I worked prodigiously. That fire had been extinguished somehow and by something that I could not identify. I went to the doctor and told her of my pattern and of how the pattern had been broken and how unusual this was. I don't recall her prescribing anything, probably just the usual jeremiads of exercise, which she knew I did regularly, of no smoking, which she knew I did not do, and of abstinence from alcohol, which she knew I would not do. The only thing she did that I recall is blood work.
It was now beyond a month and I was growing very impatient. I decided that I needed a change of scenery. I decided to go off and "meditate" somewhere, to clear my head, to jolt me back to my hot burning self.
I decided to head to Houston.

When I got divorced, in 2003, a consequence of falling deeply in love with fin de siecle girl and before China girl, and moved into my own place, a one bedroom condominium unit, I decided to have the walls painted in the manner that Rothko painted the chapel paintings--horizontal brush strokes with an over abundance of paint on the brush causing the paint to drip down onto the next unpainted section--Wait for the drip effect.--and then repeat, so I instructed the two guys I commissioned to paint this project, and, of course, in the same color as in the chapel paintings. I bought pint containers of blue paint, red paint and black paint, mixed them in various proportions which I recorded in a ledger, painted samples onto the concrete floor of the balcony, let dry and then compared to high quality scans of the chapel paintings. I became Mr. Sherwin Williams. When to my satisfaction I had gotten le colour juste, and I have remained satisfied that I got le colour juste, I purchased three gallons of paint, one blue, one red, one black, mixed them myself in the correct proportions and then gave to the two Michelangelos of Little Israel I had commissioned.

It was the fin de siecle, a few years of intense immersion in art; before 9/11 and study of Islam which gave way, with a new girlfriend, to many years of deep focus on China.
I had been back to the apartment of the fin de siecle girlfriend, the art girlfriend, after first seeing the purple walls. I went through every goddamned art magazine in her rack looking for the photograph but we broke up shortly thereafter and I never found it. That is when I began googling and emailing museums in Texas. To no further avail.
I am not sure now how I connected the "museum purple walls" to Rothko's field paintings mounted against walls (nearly as large) in the chapel in Houston. I think I excised "walls" and substituted "paintings" in my searches. I was familiar with field paintings and with Rothko's field paintings but few of either of those were monochromes; Rothko's signature field paintings were two color rectangles with indefinited borders and which seemed to pulsate and to change color and shape as you looked at them. I had never seen a monochrome Rothko of such size but I think I must have discovered the chapel paintings by googling "field painting purple," perhaps "Rothko field paintings purple." When I made the discovery I read everything I could find on the Rothko Chapel.
I read that the paintings had been commissioned for a non-ecumenical chapel in Houston by a wealthy art patroness. They had been completed shortly before Rothko's suicide in 1969 and not delivered to Houston until after his death.
I read the dedicatory remarks of the patroness. She had never seen monochromatic Rothko field paintings of such size before either and she was a little disappointed, a little apologetic in her dedicatory remarks. The purple chapel paintings are a dark purple; others on the side walls are more blue but a dark blue/purple also. They do not throb as Rothko's lighter bi-color field paintings do. They do pulsate a little and they do change appearance a little. The chapel paintings are "cold"; the Seagram's paintings "hot."
I discovered the Rothko Chapel paintings in 2002 or 2003.

In the early evening of that day I had gone over to my girlfriend's apartment to pick her up to go to dinner. I sat in her living room while she dressed in the bedroom. She walked back and forth from bathroom to bedroom in different stages of dress and undress, this unintentional burlesque causing a build up of saliva in my mouth and constriction of my throat. I grabbed an Art Forum magazine out of the rack next to the chair where I was seated and thumbed through it as distraction. Soon, my eyes stopped flitting up to the bedroom entrance and I became lost in an article.
"Hi Boo." The click-clack of her open toed high heels on the hardwood floor had registered in the background but the sound of her voice startled me and I jerked my head up to her lush, young body curving out of skin tight blue jean denims. Moments before, I had turned the page of the magazine and saw the article on the endangered museum and the small photograph of the purple walls. I bored in on the photograph and the photograph bore into me, straight into my soul.
I hastily put the magazine back in the rack and looked after it as I did. I stood up and embraced my girlfriend and as we walked to the door of her apartment to leave I looked back at the magazine.

Dear Sirs, Ma'am,
Can you tell me which museum in Texas it is that has fallen into disrepair and is in need of money for renovation? I briefly saw an article on this in, I think, Art Forum and now cannot locate the article.
Dear Mr. Harris,
I know of no museum in Texas that is falling into disrepair save perhaps The Alamo. However we all are in need of funding. Could I interest you in a membership?
Dear Sirs, Ma'am,
Can you help me with this? I briefly saw an article in, I think, Art Forum, on a museum in Texas that was falling into disrepair for lack of funds. There was only one photograph accompanying the article and it showed purple interior walls.
That is all I remember and I cannot find the article now. If any of this sounds familiar would you please let me know which museum you think it might be.
Dear Benjamin,
Thank you for your inquiry. I have asked other staff and no one, myself included, knows of a museum in Texas that is experiencing financial difficulties to such extent that the integrity of the physical plant is threatened.
As a museum ourselves it is alarming to us to think of another in such straits. If you ever determine which museum it is please let us know.

The crest features "themes of sound and energy,"...
How does it do that? I see themes of Trump's Wall, slatted version.
...and is complete in "Acoustic Blue" and "Electric Gold," the latter of which will serve as Nashville's primary kit color.
I understand that there are--for some reason--like a thousand different colors that lay claim to being gold. Like many of those others that is not gold, "electric" or otherwise, that is custard or something.
That orange thing is gold? That's absurd "color thesaurus." Of all the shades of gold in "color thesaurus" Nashville SC's color is closest to LEMON.
"Gold is our primary club color, and we need to own that color in the sport," said Nashville SC CEO Ian Ayre.
You own it, Ian! It is alll yours, buddy.
In Gesundheit Kun Aguero scored in the 18' to give the Angels the lead. Then the Krauts began cheating. Two penalty kicks--What is this, the World Cup?--in the first half gave Schalke04 a 2-1 lead. Then they decided they could only win if City played with only ten men so Otamendi got tossed in the 68'. Then Bad Bad Leroy Sane (who used to play in Gesellschaft) evened it up 2-2 in the 85'. Then British Crown Sterling in the 90th and the Angels run out winners 3-2. Cheaters come to provers, FC Schalke04. Swine.

Heat Check
A Western conference scout was asked by the Miami Herald to take the temperature of the “Heat.” The body was cold:
“They have really screwed it up. They are in this mess by themselves, have only themselves to blame. They got deluded by one year of performance, fell much too in love with their own players. They have five bad contracts – James Johnson, Whiteside, Waiters, Kelly Olynyk and now Ryan Anderson. Their whole team is just a bunch of other guys. They have too many mediocre players.”

There are several times during this live performance of Operator in 1972 where vocal accompaniest Maury Muehleisen looks at Jim poignanty, it looks like he is checking on him, to see if he really has “learned to take it well.” The song was not about a personal experience that Jim had but of ones he witnessed while in the Army. I have not seen these contemplative looks by one singer at another during a performance before.
Maury died with Jim in the plane crash on takeoff at Natchitoches Regional Airport in Louisiana.
Oh, what we lost in that man.
Like the pine trees lining the winding road
I got a name, I got a name
Like the singing bird and the croaking toad
I got a name, I got a name
And I carry it with me like my daddy did
But I'm living the dream that he kept hid
Like the pine trees lining the winding road
I got a name, I got a name
Like the singing bird and the croaking toad
I got a name, I got a name
And I carry it with me like my daddy did
But I'm living the dream that he kept hid
When he died in a plane crash on September 20, 1973 Jim Croce was only 30 years old and he had a name indeed. “I Got A Name” was released on September 21.
Moving me down the highway, rolling me down the highway
Moving ahead so life won't pass me by
Moving me down the highway, rolling me down the highway
Moving ahead so life won't pass me by
And I'm gonna go there free
Like the fool I am and I'll always be
I've got a dream, I've got a dream
They can change their minds but they can't change me
I've got a dream, I've got a dream
Oh, I know I could share it if you'd want me to
If you're goin' my way, I'll go with you
I've got a dream, I've got a dream
They can change their minds but they can't change me
I've got a dream, I've got a dream
Oh, I know I could share it if you'd want me to
If you're goin' my way, I'll go with you

THE Manchester derby will be postponed following Manchester City's progression in the FA Cup.
The second Manchester United vs Manchester Cityclash of the season was due to take place on March 16.
The mega clash between Pep Guardiola and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's teams at Old Trafford was scheduled to be live on TV at 12.30pm on Saturday afternoon.
But the game must now be moved due to City's progression in the FA Cup.

The finest human being in sport is also, thank God, the most powerful.
On February 1, 2014 Adam Silver became commissioner of the NBA. On April 25, less than three months on the job, Donald Sterling exploded in Adam's lap. The Sterling racist audio recordings presaged the rise to power in America of racists like Donald Trump and his supporters including my-brother-the-Klansman. The Sterling audios were to the NBA, 70% of whose players are black, as Trump was to the former U.S.A., a threat to its continued existence. Players on the Los Angeles "Clippers," the franchise Sterling owned, turned their jerseys inside out to hide the team name and logo. There was talk of players boycotting games.
Adam's response on April 29 was a terrible swift sword:
Shortly after the release of an audio recording this past Saturday morning of a conversation that allegedly included Clippers owner Donald Sterling, the NBA commenced an investigation, which among other things, included an interview of Mr. Sterling.
That investigation is now complete. The central findings of the investigation are that the man whose voice is heard on the recording and on a second recording from the same conversation that was released on Sunday is Mr. Sterling and that the hateful opinions voiced by that man are those of Mr. Sterling.
The views expressed by Mr. Sterling are deeply offensive and harmful; that they came from an NBA owner only heightens the damage and my personal outrage.
Sentiments of this kind are contrary to the principles of inclusion and respect that form the foundation of our diverse, multicultural and multiethnic league.
I am personally distraught that the views expressed by Mr. Sterling came from within an institution that has historically taken such a leadership role in matters of race relations and caused current and former players, coaches, fans and partners of the NBA to question their very association with the league.
To them, and pioneers of the game like Earl Lloyd, Chuck Cooper, Sweetwater Clifton, the great Bill Russell, and particularly Magic Johnson, I apologize. Accordingly, effective immediately, I am banning Mr. Sterling for life
from any association with the Clippers organization or the NBA. Mr. Sterling may not attend any NBA games or practices. He may not be present at any Clippers facility, and he may not participate in any business or player personnel decisions involving the team.
He will also be barred from attending NBA Board of Governors meetings or participating in any other league activity.
I am also fining Mr. Sterling $2.5 million, the maximum amount allowed under the NBA constitution. These funds will be donated to organizations dedicated to anti discrimination and tolerance efforts that will be jointly selected by the NBA and its Players Association.
As for Mr. Sterling's ownership interest in the Clippers, I will urge the Board of Governors to exercise its authority to force a sale of the team and will do everything in my power to ensure that that happens. This has been a painful moment for all members of the NBA family. I appreciate the support and understanding of our players during this process, and I am particularly grateful for the leadership shown by Coach Doc Rivers, Union President Chris Paul and Mayor Kevin Johnson of Sacramento, who has been acting as the players' representative in this matter.
We stand together in condemning Mr. Sterling's views. They simply have no place in the NBA.
Thank you.
And, "everything in my power" was enough to force the sale of the "Clippers" to Steve Ballmer exactly one month later. Glory, glory hallelujah. In less than four months on the job Adam had removed the greatest existential threat ever posed to the NBA, exercised such commanding leadership, acted with more moral suasion, and exhibited bigger cojones than anyone in American sport since Kenesaw Mountain Landis. Mine eyes have seen the glory.
Comes now the failing National Concussion League whose future with CTE deniers, like climate deniers is following the trajectories of boxing and cock fighting into the dustbin of history and of bankrupting lawsuits. In search of a non-concussed commissioner of their own, various jackals and hyenas among ownership in Trump's favorite sport have approached Adam repeatedly since his stand atop Kennesaw Mountain. Take our league. Please! No. Adam immediately said no. The jackals cometh...No and hell no, Adam has repulsed the repeated comings of the repulsive jackals of the concussed white and red racist league. Adam is white on the outside but he's covered with black and blue. You stole the country, you’re not getting Adam Silver. Ring up Trump, he'll be looking for work soon.

The people of Great Britain and the people of the United States both made decisions, both while under the influence of Russian dezinformatsiya, both in 2016, that cleaved them from Europe, that increased the vulnerability of both, and that of Europe, to nuclear blackmail and attack from Russia. Those decisions are irreversible. The people of Great Britain and the people of the United States do not recognize that they did this. The people of Europe do. The leadership of Russia does.
This idiot blogger has said repeatedly that there is no going back from Trump, that this is a different country, America 2.0, that the world will never trust the country again. This weekend was the Munich Security Conference. Pence went; more than fifty members of Congress went, more than ever before, they went in force to reassure Europe, the Democrats among them to argue that Trump is an aberration, his presidency an interregnum in normalcy, that things would get back to the way they were, perhaps as soon as 2020.
“But beyond the Trump administration, an increasing number of Europeans say they believe that relations with the United States will never be the same again.”

Vollard tells us that Degas feigned deafness to escape disputations and harangues concerning things he considered false and distasteful...he must have only surmised what we know definitely today: that the constant repetition of falsehood is more convincing than the demonstration of truth.
