The Times based their headline on a press statement issued by Egypt's Dar al-Ifta, a prominent Islamic institute in Egypt. In David Brooks' caste system Dar al-Ifta are accorded "high respect" by the Times, they would sit at the "adults' table." This is as much of the statement as I have been able to find online:
"This action is an unjustified provocation against the feelings of 1.5 billion Muslims. This (magazine) edition will result in a new wave of hatred in French and Western society. What the magazine is doing does not serve co-existence and the cultural dialogue Muslims aspire to."
