In less than half an hour Mitt Romney will throw on his pail of water to attempt to douse the Trumpster fire. Advance remarks of the speech released to the press:
"Donald Trump is a phony, a fraud. His promises are as worthless as a degree from Trump University. He's playing the American public for suckers: He gets a free ride to the White House and all we get is a lousy hat."
The worm is turning. GOP officials are turning hard on Donald Trump. The media is saying, "There's still time!" Trump is on the defensive. My friend Blair is suddenly conflicted.
I don't think there's time under these circumstances. Not with three other candidates in the race. You notice, Romney is not endorsing anyone! Republican leaders are reduced to this, opposing but offering no alternative (which is also how they behave in Congress), or joining Erick Erickson in fantasy land.
