Trump puts the lie to "American exceptionalism."The idea that the American people are "better," smarter,that America is a "shining city on a hill," the "last best hope of mankind," etc., it's all bullshit, it has always been bullshit. America was born on third base and Americans think they've hit a triple. We were gifted half a continent. Boundless, unexploited natural resources. We appropriated from our mother country, who we disowned, the language, the philosophy of individual liberty, the politics of representative democracy, the religion of Protestantism, the economic philosophy of capitalism, and, most important of all, the legal system.
For half of America's existence the world snickered: at our insane birth certificate, at our anti-intellectualism, at our "culture," at our pretensions to, and protestations of, greatness.
In the second half of America's life, up until 11/8/16, the world bought the lie. Look at what America did: turned the tide of World War I, won World War II, created an economy and standard of living for its people that raced ahead of all others, won Nobel Prizes in every field; Jazz, homegrown artists, Harvard, Chicago, Stanford. Happiness. Happiness.There was a suppleness to American life, a constant regeneration that was rejuvenation.We led the world in everything and our bastard's birth and first hundred years were, like, soo 100 years ago.
Then we elected a man who has to defend his mental stability and IQ. So much like ourselves.We are what we have always been.
