Late Thursday night Joe Manchin killed President Biden’s entire domestic policy agenda, including on climate change. Manchin informed Senate leadership and Sen. Chuck Schumer and staff, evincing shock in their calls, informed Senate Democrats. One academic who had been advising Congressional Dems broke down in tears at Manchin’s string-along betrayal.
Schumer ought to do with Manchin what House Republican leader Kevin McCarthy did with Liz Cheney, strip him of committee assignments and kick him out of the Democratic caucus in the Senate. He has played a false game with the White House and Democratic leadership since Biden’s inauguration. He’s a Republican in sheep’s clothing; make him switch parties—which is what Cheney should also do. She is asking Dems in Wyoming to help her; she is traveling the country, including to Miami, to raise money (which is an utter waste for Dems, like my second ex-wife, who give to her) but she will not switch parties or even run as an indy.
Good luck with your reelection, Liz. You’re only down 30+ points. When you lose are you going to run against Trump for president in the primaries when he announces? No, right?
