Normally at this time of year on this day at this time of day I would have turned the page to college tackle football. But the NBA season is so fascinating and I am stuck on last night. I won't be making another bet on college football. The NBA season is so long, the games come so quickly, and there are 30 teams. No normal can keep track of what's going on everywhere. Fannies, even cognos, scrutinize our favorite. The rest are an impressionistic painting. But there are things going on in every one of those 82, every night, with every team.

-There's something rotten in the Big Apple.

-Everyone knows what's wrong in Beer and we just glance occasionally at the train wreck. Giannis wants out. They're 4-8.

-Cleveland won their 14th straight last night. There are 68 games to go. That's one take. 17% of the season is in the books and Cleveland is undefeated. That's another. Both are correct.

-Philly is 2-10. They lost to an Orlando team who are very good when they have talisman Paolo Banchero. But they didn't last night. The 7'6"ers couldn't beat them with their stars Embiid and George playing together for the first time all season. Embiid got physical with a reporter.

And that's just impressionistic. If even I followed the play-by-play of any of one of those teams' games even I would see some van Eyck detail. This is the elite level of the most artistic sport. It goes by too fast for the eye to take in.
