I'm not even titling this post to discourage rumor-mongering.
Now that Kryptonite is out of BKLN, what about KD? Adrian Wojnarowski's first reports on the Irving trade demand were that teams were calling to gauge where KD's head was. Teams know KD wants another ring and BKLN is not winning a championship with Kevin and fucking Ben Simmons. KD knows that. I don't know that he'd demand a trade again but he would welcome it to a contender.
Miami has long pined for Durant. They tried to get him years ago. He put the "Heat" on his very short list of destinations when he briefly requested a trade last summer.
Would Joe Tsai be motivated to just blow the whole thing up and start over whether KD requests a trade or not? I would bet "yes."
And what about the "Heat"? They would have to blow up their team to get Durant. For starters Bam Adebayo would have to go. Tyler Herro, too. Then it would be salary matching. If Joe Tsai was going to start over he'd want draft picks and that is precisely what Miami does not have. Enter a third team, as is usual in these mega-deals. Houston has a passel of draft picks, draft picks in every race, color, and creed. But they are rebuilding too.
Where there's an Elisburg there's a way. This is Pat Riley's last chance.
