Nebraska head coach Scott Frost stated what, to me at least, has been the obvious the last two years: his teams have lacked confidence. They give up. They don't play, I don't know if it's Frost that they lack confidence in or what the hell it is. As I said, I thought that was obvious.

Frost just said he "inherited a team with weak confidence." Yikes.

Why does that warrant a "Yikes?" It's TRUE! Both parts of it are true. The team went 4-8 in its last year under former coach Mike Riley. That is the team Frost "inherited." That team, with the normal ~25% turnover, went 4-8 for Frost! And it's true that the team lacks confidence. Are people taking that comment as Frost criticizing his players?  Better to say, "The team played with great confidence, great character, never-say-die."? Well, boy. Okay. Really?

With my 20/400 vision I can see clearly that this is a team of dogs. They did not play for Frost the entire first half of last season, then did, winning four of their last six; came into this season RANKED; didn't show great confidence in their first win over South Alabama and then showed "weak confidence," yes they did OH YES THEY DID! in blowing the next game against Colorado; won their next two, then didn't show up OH NO THEY DIDN'T! against Ohio State, and have gone 2-5 since. "The kids never gave up this season. It's a strong character team, great confidence." Okay whatever you want him to say.

Look: It is still Frost's problem! He knows that, it's his job to motivate players and he was not blaming the kids and sparing himself. I AM saying it's the players! If Frost is to turn this thing around, and as I wrote yesterday, I now do not know, yesterday's loss was on the coaches imo, but if Frost is able to turn it around it will only be after these dog players are out of the program.

Last year before some game I remember reading that reporters noticed that Frost did not appear happy after a Thursday practice. The pencils asked him about it. "No, I was happy, we had a great practice!" Frost lied. After the game Frost admitted he had been pissed about the Thursday practice.

There was a player last year, a transfer I think, who wasn't playing hard on some plays. I think he played on defense. He was criticized in the Nebraska media. I took note of that and looked the kid up and it was not pretty, I think I remember why it wasn't pretty but I am not sure enough now even to write it in a stupid blog. I don't think that kid is with the team any longer.

At the beginning of this year Frost let players have their home telephone area codes posted on the front of their helmets. For reasons I do not understand because I'm a Boomer that has been a Big Thing for some players for quite a while now. Frost thought if they wanted to engage in that quirk fine, maybe it would lead to recognition of how diverse Nebraska's team is. That lasted one, maybe two weeks and then Frost banned the quirk. I don't know why for sure but I bet it wasn't pretty.
