The recent pattern has been five days of highs. The reporting will fall off Sunday and Monday. That reporting artifact makes the seven-day average the most important metric. Through August 13:
It's a bad story. I wrote just last night that the line then looked more like a trend than an anomalous spike. You can see more vividly tonight the similarity to other upward-trending lines, e.g. July 7-11, and the dissimilarity to the anomalous peaks on June 2 and July 2-3. The seven-day Cases average has been on a plateau of 53k-54k since August 8. The current Deaths average is due to the huge bulge of Cases July 16-31. We should begin seeing shortly a fall off in Deaths from the steep drop Cases took from Aug. 1-6.
