Proud Boys joined hundreds of other protesters at a Capitol entrance a year ago. At 12:53 p.m., Ryan Samsel, a Trump supporter from Pennsylvania, approached the barricade. Dozens followed and easily overran the police. Officers retreated up the Capitol steps where they held protesters for the next 90 minutes.
