Paul Skenes, Pittsburgh "Pirates" was a UNANIMOUS National League Cy Young winner today

Skenes was only 10-10 last season. But he played on a putrid team that finished 71-91, last in their division, 12th of 15 teams in the NL, and with an org. so parsimonious that the few Pittsburgh baseball fans there are, protested. The Pirates scored no runs in five of his 32 starts and one run in another five. But he was all but unhittable, striking out 216 batters in 187 2/3 innings and had a sterling 1.97 earned run average by teams facing him. Skenes  ten wins are tied with the fewest ever for a NL Cy Young winner. He is only the third "Pirates" pitcher to ever win the award and the first since 1990.
