It’s embarrassing, humiliating to the country—we were already discredited as “the one essential country”, the shining city on the hill, every hill now occupied by murderers, The Great Republic, the Grand Experiment in democratic government of, by, and for the people; thoroughly discredited by the Trump presidency, now this election choice and now this incident. The country is a punch line.
