“It’s a shared view by everyone in the league, it’s not just coming from the league office. I think whether it’s our teams, our players association, individual players, I think there’s an acknowledgement across the league that we need to return to that principle that this is an 82-game league. ... I think there’s a statement of principle that if you’re a healthy player in this league, the expectation is that you’re going to play.”

Adam is REALLY cleaning up the bullshit in the Association. This in particular is something the undersigned has bemoaned the last few seasons: it has not been an 82-game league, stars like Jimmy Butler and Kyle Lowry of my "Heat" have come and gone on whim, for "personal reasons" that are never explained, or ridiculous-sounding nicks and knocks, "big toe injury", etc. when the real reason is load management. All the while fannies have to pay full price. If you're paying for a season ticket that means an 82-game season. Orgs, players and fannies have long known that the regular season is next to meaningless. All a team has to do is finish in the TOP HALF and you qualify for the "real" season, the playoffs. Again, look at the "Heat".

Adam is also cracking down on player-criminals like Ja Morant. HE knows that this, more than any other issue save Donald Sterling's racism, is an existential problem for the Association. The NBA is an urban, and yes, that is code for "Black” majority (72%), league in a 71% white majority country. Racism is flourishing in America, duh, and when you have Black players fitting white fannies stereotypes of Black men, you have money flying out the window and seats going empty.

In 2009 Gilbert Arenas and Javaris Crittenton drew guns on each other in the Washington locker room! Adams's predecessor, David Stern, came down hard, suspending Arenas for the season. By 2012 he was out of the Association.

But now we have Ja Morant with two firearms incidents in the space of two months. Adam suspended him eight games in the first incident and twenty-five in the second. Both should have been lengthier, imo.

And comes now Kevin Porter, Jr. two months after Ja's second gun flash  bloodying, hospitalizing and breaking the vertebrae in the neck of a WNBA player—the WOMEN'S National Basketball Association—in a girlfriend-boyfriend incident in a New York hotel. Prior to, in Jan. 2022, Porter, Jr. threw an object in the locker room at Houston assistant coach John Lucas. And prior to that Porter, Jr. also had a weapons incident in the 2020-21 season. For what it's worth it says here that Kevin Porter, Jr.'s career (as a basketball player) effectively may be over when Adam Silver completes his investigation and metes out punishment.

Adam is acutely aware that his owners and his players could easily spin the NBA completely out of American sports relevance and he is determined to prevent it. All power to the Commissioner: ALL of this bullshit must stop yesterday.
