I have just begun perusal of Jack Smith's motion and I want to highlight the first thing that struck me:
As he acknowledged in a televised town hall on May 10, 2023, his supporters listen to him “like no one else.”11
11 See CNN, Transcript of CNN’s Town Hall with Former President Donald Trump (May
11, 2023), https://www.cnn.com/2023/05/11/politics/transcript-cnn-town-hall-trump/index.html.
That seems anodyne, no? No. Look at the date. Smith is still investigating Trumpie in this, the D.C., case. That is very bad boding for Trumpie. Smith's team is poring over every public word Trumpie utters, in real time, gathering, gathering, gathering. Look at that: just four words, "like no one else". Now what is the evidentiary usefulness of those four words? They go to the heart of the D.C. case. Trump knew that MAGA listens to him "like no one else" on Nov. 4, 2020, on Dec. 19, 2020 at 1:42 a.m., on Jan. 6, 2020, on all days in between and on all days since. Trump knew that his Dec. 19 tweet "Be there, will be wild!" would trigger the Jan. 6 violence because MAGA listens to him "like no one else." Trump confirmed that on May 11, 2023.
Jack Smith has Trumpie caught in a snare. Words are a narcotic for Trumpie, he's addicted to them, he can't help himself, they just come out of his mouth whenever he opens it. And Jack Smith is listening to every word "like no one else."
