50 Days to VE Day!

Sunday, September 15, 2024

At 5:20 pm I posted my first about the assassination attempt. The frisson quickly dissipated and when it did my reaction settled to,

I think the political rule of assassinations is you only get one total bounce. (Text to family and one friend at 6:37, posted here at 6:38.

So the political shelf life for this for me lasted one hour and twenty-seven mins. It has been a surreal summer but that was my unconsciously nonplussed reaction within less than an hour and a half. It was not consciously cynical, it was sincerely how I felt. Maybe the majority of American adults are still still deeply affected, I can only speak for myself. When the assassination attempt in Butler, Pa. occurred I was about broken. That was so close to a successful assassination and trumpie's truly heroic response was unique in American political history. I thought he was a shoe-in to win the presidency in November after that. This had nowhere near the same effect on me. To reiterate, I speak for no one's feelings but my own, but I have thought, what undecided voter after Butler has now decided, "One didn't push me to vote for Trump; but this second, I'm definitely going to vote for him."? I truly feel a negligible number. Who among Kamala voters will say, "I have to vote for trumpie now?" None, imo. It is only 8 hours or so after the event and who knows what police interrogation of Routh will reveal? But unless he says the Harris-Walz campaign put out a hit on trumpie, I think we have a fair handle on the motive and I don't expect the event today to have any significant effect on the voters in the swing states. All of this are my honest, sincere, reactions and thoughts.

In 2020, he [Routh] made a social media post backing Trump’s reelection, but in more recent years his posts have expressed support for Biden and Harris.

(AP)

Rus invasion of Ukraine began Feb. 24 2022 and he was a big Ukraine supporter so that apparently was the catalyst to become a Biden-Harris supporter and, apparently, his motive to try to take out trumpie today. But. That is what it looks like to me based on available light. He has a lengthy criminal record long before even 2020, including possession of weapons of mass destruction, which in NC include fully automatic weapons. He was convicted in a 3-hour stand-off with police. That conviction manifestly did not disqualify him from voting in subsequent elections. It is a muddled picture in totality but it is clear that in 2024 he was aligned with Democrats and contributed money to us. It appears reasonably clear to me that this was an assassination attempt against trumpie because of trumpie's vehement opposition to Ukraine.

FT Carolina "Panthers" 3 La-La Charge-Charge 26

This is pure schadenfreude to me, I have no interest in either team. Carolina owner David Pecker is one...no, I'll say not one of, he is THE biggest asshole sports owner. Hires and fires head coaches just about every year. DRAFTS players himself.

So, The Panthers have been outscored 73-13 this season.

And,

At times, it appeared the Panthers were playing not to let the score get more out of hand, twice running the football in the final minutes of the third quarter while down by 20 — much to the chagrin of the home crowed, the majority of which left before the fourth quarter.

Carolina didn't throw the ball down the field.

Exquisitely pleasurable.

Trump plans to visit Springfield, Ohio, the site of his baseless claims about Haitian immigrants

Former President Donald Trump plans to visit Springfield, Ohio, "soon," a source familiar with the planning said.

Good! GO ASAP!

“In Springfield, they’re eating the dogs. The people that came in. They’re eating the cats. They’re eating — they’re eating the pets of the people that live there. And this is what’s happening in our country. And it’s a shame,” Trump said on the debate stage.

Raleigh News-Observer

Ryan Wesley Routh of Greensboro is in custody after the Secret Service spotted a scope pointed at the former president while he golfing at his course in Florida. Routh, 58, has an extensive criminal history in North Carolina that includes convictions between 2002 and 2010 of possession of weapons of mass destruction, carrying a concealed gun, hit and run, possession of stolen goods and resisting law enforcement, among other charges. Routh has a second address in Hawaii. But he’s registered to vote in North Carolina as an unaffiliated voter. In North Carolina, unaffiliated voters can choose which primary they want to vote in. Routh chose Democrats when he voted this spring.

NY Times interviewed him in 2023 on Ukraine!

A U.S. law enforcement official identified the suspect as Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, of Hawaii. The official spoke on the condition of anonymity because the investigation is continuing. Mr. Routh was interviewed by The New York Times in 2023 for an article about Americans volunteering to aid the war effort in Ukraine. Mr. Routh, who had no military experience, said he had traveled there after Russia’s invasion in 2022 to recruit Afghan soldiers for the fight. He told The Times he once visited Washington to meet with politicians to strengthen support for Ukraine. “I’m just a U.S. citizen that’s helping out,” he said.

ROUTH IS A DEM! "Democracy is on the ballot" per NY Post:

Okay, this might reasonably hurt Kamala.

Bad news for Zelensky:

Same guy! 60 years old! Guy's in good shape.

AP:

Ryan Wesley Routh is the suspect's name.

Rep. Elise Stefanik of New York, chair of the House Republican Conference, questioned “how an assassin was allowed to get this close to President Trump again” in light of the attempt on his life two months earlier.

“There continues to be a lack of answers for the horrific assassination attempt in Pennsylvania and we expect there to be a clear explanation of what happened today in Florida,” she added, calling on Americans to “unite behind” the GOP nominee in the November general election.

[You're DREAMING, Stefanik.  I. Assassinations. Sub A. Political Capitalization. Sub i. Only one cumulative benefit per candidate.  Multiple assassination attempts must not be stacked. Taylor Swift will be playing at Kamala Harris' Inauguration.]

Routh was convicted in 2002 of possessing a weapon of mass destruction, according to online North Carolina Department of Adult Correction records. The records do not provide details about the case.

But a News & Record story from 2002 says a man with the same name was arrested after a three-hour standoff with police.

The story says he was pulled over during a traffic stop, put his hand on a gun and barricaded himself inside a roofing business.

Routh was charged with carrying a concealed weapon and possessing a weapon of mass destruction, “referring to a fully automatic machine gun,” according to the News & Record.

Think about it: it becomes election interference after awhile. Just gauging my own reaction, "Another one? Come on, been there, done that, got the ear pierced."

I think the political rule of assassinations is you only get one total bounce.

ANOTHER ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT ON TRUMP--IN FLORIDA

AP Top 25, Week 4

No, Pitt didn't make it. Know how many votes they got? ONE. Holy cow.

In other rankings, Texas is now no. 1 after pasting UTSA while Georgia slipped to second on a tyoo close 13-12 win at KY Jelly.

Tennessee and Missouri also flip-flopped. The "Vols" pulverized Kent State and the "Tigers" didn't cover against BC.

Miami Gardens is 8th, up two.

Paterno-Sandusky belatedly dropped two on accounta Bowling Green.

K-State and Okie State also flipped. "Wildcats" hammered Hairy Boner, "Cowboys" same Tulsa, which is not the same.

Notre Dame and Meeshagan flip, ND 17 M 18.

Iowa State (20), It's Portal Time Y'all (21) and Northern Illinoise (22) all up one peg. Illinoise and Texas DEI enter at 24 and 25.

First four out: Memphis, Boise State, Syracuse, UNLV.

God, New Orleans beat Dallas 44-19

In Texas. Pokes were 6.5 point favorites. Most shocking tackle football result of the weekend.

The weekend the presidential race stopped being close

I think these two things: eating cats and dogs and,

Just "I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!", nothing else, no other explanation. Like an 8-year old's temper tantrum. Caddy Jellyby in Bleak House tells Esther Summerson, "I wish Africa was dead!" It's the same juvenile petulance. Frum tweeted at 11:50 a.m., after trumpie's tweet. I'm sure Frum had that in mind.

Eating cats and dogs went out to 67.1M viewers and listeners. "I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!", Pennsylvania-born, Tennessee-resident Taylor Swift, the most popular person on the planet, goes out to the entire world. There is no "hate Taylor Swift" constituency anywhere. It was pure bile and vile without strategic thinking. And it goes beyond the swifties. All of them have parents and grandparents and aunts and uncles. I'm the father of a swiftie. He just shockingly offended all of us. That's going to piss people off! Like with eating cats and dogs, people of all ages, mainly white people, are going to read that post, shake their heads and go, "He has really lost it! Who's next, Santa Claus, Snow White? Him, President of the United States? Nah-ah."

It feels like we have turned a corner

Frum worked for W. The cat thing has really been damaging to trumpie-couch. That trumpie said it in the only DEBATE he will have with Kamala, you could hear voters saying to themselves, "Okay, that'a nuts, I've decided."

trumpie: "I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!"

Recognize this for what it is: he is dog-whistling violence again. It's not a surprise. Fear is his power. He and Couch are using it against Haitian-Americans and now Taylor Swift and swifties. It may work here. Tay is uber sensitive to not put her swifties in harm's way. Millions of them would vote for Kamala--if it's safe. Some will stay home if standing in lines to vote is, or is perceived to be, dangerous. The same with the Haitian-Americans in Springfield, Ohio. Axios reports today that they are asking each other and local officials "if it is safe to leave my house." Classes were canceled at middle schools, high schools and one college canceled campus activities this weekend.

It is not just these recent dog-whistles, of course. They go back to his prediction of "riots" at the convention in Cleveland in 2016 if mainstream Republican delegates voted against him. His campaigns have been based on Fear from the time he announced in 2015 and stoked it on "Mexican rapists."

Israel says ‘high probability’ its strike killed three hostages in Gaza

On Sunday, the Israeli military said there was a “high probability” that three hostages found dead months ago were killed in an Israeli airstrike.

The army announced the conclusions of its investigation into the deaths of Cpl. Nik Beizer, Sgt. Ron Sherman and Elia Toledano. It said investigations had determined that the three were likely killed in a November airstrike that also killed a senior Hamas militant, Ahmed Ghandour.

All three of the hostages were kidnapped in Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack. Their bodies were recovered in December, but the cause of death was only recently determined.

In its report, the army said there was a “high probability” they were killed in the strike, based on where the bodies were recovered, pathological reports and other intelligence. ...

Vance pushes debunked pet-eating claims yet again

Republican vice presidential nominee Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio) tripled down on debunked rumors that immigrants in Ohio are eating cats in an interview airing Sunday on "Meet the Press," contending "constituents are seeing it with their own eyes."

...

Vance, addressing the conspiracy, acknowledged on X ahead of the debate that the rumors could "turn out to be false" — but encouraged supporters to "keep the cat memes flowing."

"I'm not repeating [the rumors] because I invented them out of thin air. I'm repeating them because my constituents are saying these things are happening," Vance told NBC "Meet The Press" moderator Kristen Welker in Sunday's interview, referencing a video "of a migrant 30 miles away eating a cat."

The video he is seemingly highlighting was one he shared on X Saturday.

The footage and accompanying article allege that African immigrants in Dayton, Ohio, were grilling cats.

But Dayton Police Chief Kamran Afzal said in a statement there is "no evidence to even remotely suggest that any group, including our immigrant community, is engaged in eating pets."

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine, a Republican, said on ABC's "This Week" that there is "absolutely" no evidence Haitian immigrants are eating cats, saying the conversation "needs to stop" as "hate groups" are coming to the town.

"The Haitians who are in Springfield are legal. They came to Springfield to work. Ohio is on the move and Springfield has really made a great resurgence," he said, adding the Haitian immigrants who have moved to the town are "very good workers."

He characterized the rumors as "a piece of garbage that was simply not true," saying Haitian immigrants are "positive influences" on the community.

Multiple buildings in Springfield have been evacuated because of threats identified by law enforcement — threats Springfield Mayor Rob Rue told the New York Times were a "hateful response to immigration in our town."

Police at Wittenberg University, a liberal arts college in Springfield, said in a campus alert that an email sent Saturday threatened a shooting the following day.

The threat, which prompted campus event cancellations, targeted Haitians, the alert said.

On Friday, Trump pledged to conduct the "largest deportation in the history of our country," starting in Springfield, Ohio, and Aurora, Colorado, another city that has been pulled into the national immigration debate as overstated claims migrants are taking over apartment complexes there spread rapidly online.

Yep

Still, a day later, Vance was back at it.

As one dismayed X user wrote, “It does feel like these guys won’t be satisfied until someone is hurt or killed.”

FT No. 1 UGA Edges KY Jelly 13-12 in Lexington

Nebraska has beaten UTEP, Colorado, and Northern Iowa, all in Lincoln.

Pitt has beaten Kent State at home, Cincinnati away, and West Virginia at home. Advantage...who? Advantage Nebraska, say the AP voters.

Georgia ball, 2:53 left. They were 21.5 favorites. 👀

Last Call

We have a situation in Lexington. Kentucky is 12-13 to #1 Georgia with 3:15 left to play and the "Wildcats" have the ball 4th down at the UGA 47.

Nebraska, like Pitt, is now 3-0 after a 34-3 walk-over of Northern Iowa. Unlike my beloved "Panthers" the "Cornhuskers" are already ranked, 23rd.

Do you know we didn't even get an AP write-up on ESPN on this win? The Backyard Brawl, MAGIC, cardiac cats two weeks in a row and crickets. (?) The AP poll is the gold standard. AP writers and those selected by AP. We didn't get a single vote for top-25 last week. We will tomorrow when the new poll comes out but we're not going to go from zero votes to enough to crack the top 25. AP voters don't believe in magic.

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Jason Mackey: Pitt has all the ingredients for a winning team — including a quarterback

I'll let you read what he says but to me the ingredient that they have is magic.

...an incredible victory that, for me anyway, triggered a different kind of curiosity.

Are these Panthers for real? They might be. At minimum, they're an entertaining group...

...
[The win over WVU] It was impressive, honestly.

What Pitt’s victory showed me, more than anything, was that there’s belief developing here — in each other, in Holstein, in the offensive game plan and the defense’s ability to figure out when necessary.

How else to explain what we saw after West Virginia snagged a 34-24 lead with 4:55 left in the fourth quarter?

[Belief when 96.7% of the evidence is that you shouldn't believe is pretty close to what religious belief is, isn't it? Your belief is all but resting on divine intervention.]
...
The plot here felt like it was straight out of a movie, honestly. At one point in the fourth quarter, the Mountaineers had 161 yards to just four for Pitt, who ran a whopping eight plays in the third quarter. Pitt went three-and-out on its first drive of the fourth quarter before the magic started.

[Oh, he DID say it. Honest to the deity I had not seen that before.]

Back-to-back holding penalties created first and 30. Yes. First. And. Thirty. There was an incompletion before Holstein targeted wide receiver Daejon Reynolds … for the first time all year on second down.

Because, of course he did.

[Jason is an entertaing writer.]

The result was a ridiculous 40-yard touchdown, easily the play of the game and a sequence that included some fairly egregious pass interference, too.

"I threw it up there," Holstein recalled. "I thought it was [defensive] holding at first and thought, 'Hey, at least we'll get the penalty.'

"But then I saw him come down with it, and I was like, 'Hell yeah. I appreciate that Dae-Dae. Thanks for helping me out.' ...
...
"I wouldn't say I put the team on my back," Holstein said about his runs. "I made plays that were there to make. But I do have to disagree, those sacks should not count against my rushing yards. Without those, I would have, like, 88 rushing yards, which would've been great. College football has to change that real quick. ..."
...
[Eli is a loose, fun cat to be around, it seems.]
...
"The last two drives, we needed to get our offense the football back," Brandon George said. "I told the guys, 'It’s our game, no matter what. I don’t care what the score is. Don’t even look at the scoreboard. Get the football back, and we’re gonna be great.' "

“Every week it’s something a little bit different,” Narduzzi added. “It’s finding a way to win. They’re blue vase-ing it.”

[Narduzzi has a blue vase. I forget the progeny. It's some talisman. Which is a magical thing.]

And while we could be in danger of getting out too far ahead of our skis, it shouldn’t be hard to agree on this: The 2024 Pitt Panthers are a heck of a lot better than anybody expected.

[Yeah. Judge, I stipulate to counsel Mackey's last statement.]

They’re certainly exciting, with back-to-back comeback wins, one more dramatic and improbable than the next.

They have a gamebreaker at tailback in Desmond Reid, who came into this one leading the country in all-purpose yards. What impressed me Saturday was that the Mountaineers took Reid away … and that was OK. Pitt survived.

[They do, I said it last week. They have two stars on offense, Holstein and Reid. And WVU didn't let Reid beat them--and still got beat. That to me is magic. Two stars is better than one or none obviously, but football offense is ELEVEN guys. Tyoo isn't much! Yet I am getting that sense of magic that if next week Eli gets shut down, Desmond, or some other guy, Daejon Reynolds or the blue vase will step up.]
...
..."That was a happy locker room after the game.”--Head Cat Pat Narduzzi

THANK YOU BC! I finish +$5 for the day and on the young season. Can't tell you how impressed I am with the "Eagles", all due to this NFL coaching staff. Bill O'Brien is finally content. He's done it all. He can stay in Chestnut Hill as long as he wants, and as long as he does Boston College is going to be a force in the ACC and, I think, a factor nationally. I sound naive saying this but I honestly didn't think coaching could make such a difference.

FOREST HAS BEATEN SLAVERPOOL! FOREST HAS BEATEN SLAVERPOOL! FT 0-1

A FAMOUS victory 55 years in the making. 👏👏🌲

I got that in just under the wire, didn't I? I was talking to my Big Brother on the phone and we were both surprised at that huge spread. A home dog is a good bet is a bettor's adage and I decided to pounce on it.

Pigskin Investing Update

I'm putting a nickel on the Boogers as a home dog to cover -16.

GOAL! Liverpool 0-1 Nottm Forest (Hudson-Odoi 72)

Nottingham Forest have taken the lead at Anfield! The two substitutes, Elanga and Hudson-Odoi, combined again on the counter-attack before Hudson-Odoi curled a lovely shot into the far corner from 20 yards.

Forest haven’t won at Anfield since 1969, so this is officially Big News.

NOTTINGHAM TAKES THE LEAD AT SLAVERPOOL! 0-1, NOW IN 74'. GO SHERIFFS! GO SHERIFFS!

Political Investors Daily Saturday

Slightly more money going to Kamala cat this morning than to trumpie dog. The spread is now 51%-47.4%. Conservative-biased RCP has their polling average also up for Kamala the same 0.2 to +1.7: 48.6%-46.9%.

Wall Street Journal Editorial (as much as I can read)

Why is the former President hanging with a 9/11 conspiracist?

Donald Trump likes to call his political opponents nuts, as in “crazy Nancy Pelosi,” so then why is he hanging with the 9/11 conspiracist Laura Loomer? Is he trying to lose the election?

We can’t believe we have to write this about a presidential candidate, but then Mr. Trump seems to like the company of Ms. Loomer, the 31-year-old online provocateur. She was backstage with the Trump team during this week’s debate with Kamala Harris and was in the spin room with the former President afterward.

She then flew on Mr. Trump’s plane to the anniversary memorials of 9/11 in New York City and the site of the Flight 93 crash in Pennsylvania. Her attendance at these events was especially insulting since Ms. Loomer has claimed that 9/11 was “an inside job.” Does she think Osama bin Laden was a CIA front man?

###

Okay, so that's it. My answer to Wally's first rhetorical question is: because trumpie is a conspiracy theorist himself: see Obama birther, global warming, COVID, the 2020 election. I've missed a lot, I know. The elevator seriously doesn't go all the way to the top in trumpie. Facts get nowhere near the top floor. He's seriously touched and always has been, but now he's old and has had the loopedy loops of thirty-four felony convictions, an involuntary ear piercing procedure, Joey drop out of his redemption race, Kamala drop in, he can't make hide nor hair of her, one epic smackdown of a debate opponent, his own bitch slap by Kamala, his crowds inexplicably (to him) dwarfed by those of the newbie, who he doesn't know who she is and he's losing to her, his campaign bank account melting in the summer, soon to be autumn, heat while she is experiencing a green avalanche. Seriously, that's a lot.

My answer to the second question is, no, of course not. He is trying to cope. He's trying to run back 2016, brought back Corey Lewandowski to do that, is paranoid that his predicament is all his aides' fault (Lincoln Project's commercials playing to his conspiracy half-thought that maybe they are all against him have worked), he's grasping at straws as a drowning man grasps at any stray reed or floating garbage, when he found the aforesaid "Loomer Tunes", and yet knows that nothing, not shooting a man in broad daylight, nor JD Couch and the laughable, non-factual and deadly libel of pet eating high melanins, nor Hannibal Lechter nor shocking sharks, nor Loomer, not anything can dislodge </=47% of the voting public because he talks like them and vice versa and were dropped on their heads as infants more than the recommended dosage. Loomer supports him unconditionally and forever and her presence at his side is comforting as a blanket infected with the plague. So he's ignoring LaCivita and Wiles and making out with Corey and Laura in the corner of a dark room by the light of a flickering 20 watt bulb high over head. It casts ominous pulsing shadows which he studies for meaning. It's all he has. He sees his revenge tour crashing and burning but only to that 47% floor-ceiling and is hoping for a Diabolus ex Machina if needed and it may be needed. There are no shortage of Diaboli who could intervene: a European war between Russia and NATO is most promising; he has a soul mate in the middle east in Netanyahu who may plausibly trigger war with Iran and give truth to his "the world is on fire". Is there anyone who sees that as beyond the pale of the not unreasonable occurrence? Not I. He is caught between the diamond hard rock of </equal 47% with no reasonable path to get to 48% much less an election-winning percent and so he flails and fails again and again. Yet (again) he is closer to Kamala than he was to Biden in 2020 and it would take a non-cataclysm to get beyond 47% and squeak by in the EC. If the election were held today Democrats' bums would be so tight you couldn't get a needle uo there and just ask Nate Silver. as of 1:45 pm today the Silvery forecast was a 69% chance of an orange sunrise and sunset in the Electoral College with only a 31% chance of blue skies? trumpie's not in panic mode, what's to panic about? He's in concern and deep suspicion mode. All is not near lost for trumpie, and he knows that better than all of his aides combined and he doesn't trust them and is grabbing onto Lewandowski and Loomer who will tell him that till cows fly. What else is he to do? In for a nut, in for a nut factory. But he will lose continuing on this LSD-induced path to involuntary hospitalization and he senses that it may and is worried that it may and anxiety-panic-lunacy is a vicious but predictable circle.

No, he doesn't really think OBL was a CIA front man but Laura does and she likes him so what the heck, let her be her own right wing flower child free thinker and see where where that lands him.

He is not going to change, he's not going to disavow a supporter whether it's a 9/11 conspiracist, or the "good" Nazis at Charlottesville. Let Trump be Trump was Lewandowski's sole prescription onboarding and it's not working swimmingly, he knows that, but hey, they support and comfort him and he's not going to lose that </= 47% so why not.

He's going to lose but not because of irritating, suspicion-inducing aides but because Trump is being Trump.

Silvery

Today at 1:45 he has Kamala winning 270 EVs and the presidency as well, via a 0.2% lead in Pennsylvania, but has tyoo states as dead heats. The Silvery map:

The Silvery national margin is Kamala +2.1.

By swing state:

Pa. +0.2
NC even
Mi. +1.2
Ga. +0.8
Wi. +2.1
Nv. even
NM +6.7
Mn +5.7
NH +6.1
Ne-2 +4.9
Va. +7.6

The way I read this you can just take New Mexico, Minnesota New Hampshire and Virginia off the swings. The rest of them are legitimately up for either Kamala's or trumpie's grab. My own state of the race map is:

Regrettably we just can't seem to get over the hump in Mt, +17.4.

RCP (conservative biased): Pennsylvania goes blue, Kamala Wins Presidency

HOWEVER. BUT. There is no new Pa. poll. RCP crudely lops off the most remote poll or two in drawing their map.🙄

And for the first time since PoJo withdrew and she became the nominee, she has a slight lead in the subtly shaded tossups map.

RCP's national, conservative-biased, average is Kamala +1.5, 48.5%-47%. I evaluate trumpie's share by the hard ceiling rule. Any poll that has him 48+% I don't consider since he has never gotten 48% of the national vote in either of his two previous runs. This 47% share passes muster.

Pennsylvania political map color coded Biden-Trump 2020 with circled numbers of Kamala trips 2024.

Hundreds turn out to greet Vice President Kamala Harris at Johnstown airport

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic Party's presidential nominee, landed at the John Murtha Johnstown-Cambria County Airport Friday.

Hundreds of people filled an airport hangar, standing shoulder-to-shoulder to greet her. They chanted, "We won't go back," a reference to the possibility of another presidential term for her opponent, former President Donald Trump.

An official count of the crowd wasn't immediately available, but it was estimated at 450 people.

Johnstown Tribune-Democrat

Carville said the next "big marker" in the presidential race is October 7. Kristol said "interesting" to that. I didn't even know what James was referring to. A debate? Some Democratic thing? Voting begins somewhere big? I almost paused the podcast to look it up. I'm just processing it now. My first reaction when I got the reference was: "No". But I'M NOT DISAGREEING WITH JAMES CARVILLE!

Trump is Just Evil

Bomb threats force second consecutive day of school closures in Springfield, Ohio

Several local leaders have also been targeted in the wake of baseless claims aimed at Haitian immigrants that have been repeated by former President Donald Trump.

I can't tell you how strongly I feel that this is a good idea.

This is their "lose by less" strategy and she is going right into the heart of trumpie country to do it. trumpie has visited Johnstown so many times that he's a resident by now. Biden, to my recollection, never did. HRC to my recollection did not. Hillary went to Pittsburgh, Biden went to Scranton of course many times but that was his birthplace and that's in the northeast of the commonwealth. It's not properly considered Pennsyltucky, the sobriquet reserved for Western Pennsylvania. The trans-Allegheny is a distinct region. I know exactly where she is going to speak, the only place of any size in Johnstown, what was named after World War II the War Memorial, capacity 4,000. Been in the War Memorial dozens of times.

Johnstown used to be a heavily Democratic city because of the presence of the steel mills, of Eastern European immigrants, and the unions. Now there are no steel mills and hardly any people. Johnstown's population peaked in the 1920 census, 67,000. That was BIG for America then! The population declined in every census thereafter. Know what the pop is now? 18,411.

The area is in pain. They have been abandoned and they feel abandoned. By going to Johnstown Kamala is saying, "You have not been abandoned. You matter." That goes some way with people. She will never, ever, ever win Cambria County, I doubt she'll win Johnstown, but she will certainly lose Johnstown by less by just showing up. That will take a small load off Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and their suburbs to shoulder the entire Commonwealth.

Kamala Outdrew trumpie by 9.8x Yesterday

The figures are in from the rallies yesterday.

For Kamala:

-7,500 were in Bojangles Coliseum, capacity 8,600 in Charlotte.

-17,000 were in Greensboro Coliseum, cap. 22,000.

For trumpie:

2,000, "roughly capacity", "with hundreds turned away" (per kgun9 Tucson), at Linda Ronstadt Music Hall in Tucson. I'll give him 2,500 combined attended/turned away.

Kamala drew 9.8x the number trumpie did.

Pigskin Investing Weekly Update

The spread in the Pitt-Couch Burn game has dropped to Couch -1. This is wise futures pricing by Las Vegas but is still not reality. The "Panthers" will pin the 'Eers.

Similarly Mizzou has gotten the drop in the BC game, from -17 to -15.5. I put a dime on my Majestic Soaring Eagles at the former. Me thinks BC will cover the latter, as well.

I had been cogitation WI-AL -16. That number has not changed and I am no longer cogitating.

Times

This has been reported on, I'm not just speculating. AG Sulzberger, the Times publisher has been pissed at PoJo for four years because he wouldn't sit down for an interview. "Every president since FDR has..." he has said over and over again to the White House. The White House got their backs up. The Times felt "entitled" as the legacy "newspaper of record" and the White House refused.

Kamala sat down with them. There were, no lie, like 35 Times journalists present. Sulzberger was present. He spent the first 3-4 mins asking Kamala why PoJo wouldn't sit down with them. "Every president since FDR..." She was pissed after she left, muttering to aides that AG had wasted 3-4 mins of the scheduled time. Now SHE won't sit down with them as Dem nominee and Sulzberger is furious. He has his toady Bret Stephens challenging her, all but saying, "no sit down, no favorable coverage."  She gave an interview instead to whoever it was, ABC, CNN. I am as sure as I can be without hearing AG telling me directly that that is a large part of what has been going on there "for the last couple of years" in their opinion page and their reporting. So whatever the constellation of reasons consists, this is coming from the top down, from AG Sulzberger to his editors, to the reporters.

When I was writing about the Times, because I was reading it, I wrote many times that there is a code to reading them. There's a rule for how long columnists' pieces can be. Gail Collins wrote in 2016 that it "about 800 words". I swear I read that it was a very precise number, like 638. Whatever, there's a fixed rule. Friedman would often surround the critical point of his columns with chaff. And to give another instance of the extent of editorial control, the layout of the front page, traditionally the hard copy had the most important stories above the fold. Obvious enough. But they had an additional internal rule, so announced years ago, whether it is still, idk, that the most important of the most important was in the right hand column of the front page above the fold. Hebrew influence? Hebrew is read right to left. English is left to right. Whatever the reason, you had to know that. What the Times editors deemed the most important story was in the right hand column, however small, at top, above the fold.

This elitist, encoded, entitled crap is exactly what NYT has always been known for. Now, all of these editorial influences have become vindictive. The "nation's agenda" is no longer made in the Times editorial room (ANOTHER thing that an editor told to a new hiree, pointing to "that room" with smug pride.) I don't know, I honestly don't know because I don't read it anymore, what agenda or agendas they are pushing now, but it is not the nation's agenda.

25,000 at the Kamala rally today in cavernous Greensboro Coliseum.

550, per this, in Tucson, for trumpie. I think more than that. I'd estimate 1,000-1,500, 4%-6% of Kamala's crowd.😂

teumpie sad, miss joey BAD!

Kristol's podcast with James Carville yesterday:

Carville: "I saw a Wall Street Journal [article] today. For the first time incomes are up since the end of the pandemic, 4%, which is pretty good, adjusted for inflation and all that. Have we got to the point where people have something to lose (with a 'throw the bums out', Kamala with Biden, attitude)? You don't have to say the economy is great but I think she now has license to say 'you have something to lose'. And I think that's an important threshold to cross."

 Sept. 11:

Never Again Trump

—Bill Kristol

On June 27, at this year’s first presidential debate, Joe Biden lost his chance for a second term. Last night, at this year’s second presidential debate, Donald Trump may well have lost his chance for a second term.

The evident fact is that last night Kamala Harris did well, and that Donald Trump was awful. As Trump surrogate and sycophant Lindsey Graham admitted to Tim Miller in the spin room, the debate was a “disaster” for Donald Trump. Even the talking heads on Fox News agreed.

Could Trump recover from the disaster? Sure. It’s possible. His support seems immovable, meaning he’ll probably never be very far behind.

Could Harris still falter? Perhaps. Does winning the debate mean winning the election? Of course not. There are eight long weeks left. There will still be plenty of moments in this campaign that will make us—or at least that will make me!—nervous.

But we can’t unsee what we saw last night. And what we all saw is how radically unfit Donald Trump is to be president again.

Indeed, media focus groups and private dial tests alike showed not merely that Harris won the debate; it also seems to be the case that the debate pushed a number of undecided voters, and even some soft Trump supporters, to shift towards Harris.

...

And so I think we can now say that it’s no longer a 50-50 proposition that Donald Trump will be our next president. ...

...

In light of what we all saw last night, I want to do something unusual here. I want to make a direct appeal to readers who don’t much like the Biden administration, who aren’t crazy about the Democratic Party, who aren’t sold on the Harris-Walz ticket, and who have been toying with sticking with or going back to Trump.

...

I say to you: Earnestly consider what happened in Philadelphia last night. Heck, watch the debate again, or read the transcript. And ask yourself: Do you honestly believe this man can and should lead the country for the next four years?

Joe Biden did the right thing after his debate disaster and stepped aside. Donald Trump won’t do that. So he needs to be defeated. You who’ve been tempted to support him can still be anti-left and anti-woke. You can still be a believer in the virtues and even the glories of conservatism. But you also can do what you know is the right thing: Vote against the unhinged guy you saw yelling last night. Vote for sanity and decency on November 5th.

You don’t need belatedly to become Never Trump. But after last night, you really should be Never Again Trump.

My (second ex) wife sent me this about an hour ago.

"Tim Dickinson" is correct, there is something "deeply wrong" at NYT and I am deeply disturbed to see my own thoughts in someone else's mouth. I have not subscribed to the Times for about a year, maybe longer, I didn't put it on my calendar as an anniversary, so I don't know in detail how "deeply wrong" they have gone. The following, on the same subject, the debate, I saw much earlier today and since I saw it on pitchbot I didn't know how seriously to take it.

Now having both I take the graph as 100% true. That means that 64% of NYT writers who followed or live-blogged the debate, many of whom I re-blogged believe that trumpie won the debate. It'a not just me or "Tim Dickinson" who NYT is out of touch with, it's a huge majority of American voters. 53% in the Reuters survey said Kamala won, TWENTY-FOUR percent said trumpie won.

I'm for that

MAGA Pastor Claims Kamala Harris Deployed 'Witchcraft' in Trump Debate

"When I say 'witchcraft,' I am talking about what happened tonight. Occult-empowered deception, manipulation, and domination.

"That's what ABC pulled off as moderators, and Kamala's script handlers set up the kill box. One-sided questions and fact-checking sealed the box. Witchcraft.

"She knew she could speak 20 lies about Trump and not be contradicted. That was the arrangement. And that's why I call it witchcraft, because it has the effect of planting and reinforcing thoughts in the mind of the listener that defiles perspective. This makes it easier to manipulate people."
