"With Tyler Herro in the starting lineup, the Miami Heat have not been the same team."

No, they have not.

And after all the feel-good from the first month of the season, it's pretty clear that the Heat may be facing a major crossroad at just the 20-game mark.

The Heat have won their last two games...

This was written BEFORE indisputably the worst game since Tyler's return!

...but if you've paid close attention, it's pretty easy to see that they haven't been the same team. I wouldn't place all that blame on Herro, but it's no coincidence that he's back in the starting lineup, and all of a sudden, things on the offensive end of the floor seem off again.

Maybe this is just a short adjustment period that the team needs to work through, but the Heat are coming off their two lowest scoring and slowest performances of the season.

The Heat has been a different team with Tyler Herro

If you take the last two games as a sample size, and an extremely small one, the Heat go from being the highest-scoring team in the league to a bottom-5 scoring team. They also go from having the 13th-best offensive rating to the third-worst.

Perhaps most eye-opening, if those statistics weren't enough, the Heat go from playing at the fastest pace in the league to outside the top 11.
...
What if Herro simply doesn't fit the Heat's new playstyle, and what if they have to make a big long-term decision on not only his future, but the overall long-term future of the team?

The org. hasn't extended the supermax contract extension that Tyler is eligible for.

And just 19 games in, it will be 20 after the Heat's Saturday night tilt against the Detroit Pistons, the Heat may have some very big questions to answer.

This could all be moot if the Heat are able to get back to their old ways (and send a strong message in the process) against the Pistons, but if they don't, the noise surrounding all of these concerns is just going to get louder.

Excellent, prescient piece by Michael Saenz, AllUCanHeat.

Let's check in on cleveland.com

The NBA has found ‘the way to beat’ the Cavs — and opponents are running with it

There’s a blueprint to beat the Cavs, and the entire league is aware of it. It starts with running right past them.

For all the talk of being a defense-first group, Cleveland keeps stubbing its toe on the most basic part of defense. Getting back.

Friday’s contest against the Hawks didn’t uncover anything complicated in the Hawks’ 130-123 win at State Farm Arena. They ran. They kept running. And the Cavs never found a way to stay in front of them.

Sensitive City! :o

Not only did the pro football team get flushed into Lake Mistake today, but across town the Cadavers lost to Beans. Cadavs now 12-9 on the season. Yikes.

Wow

I don't know where that is, Mississippi or Loozeeana, but that is BLEAK. ...God, those two look the product of incestuous relationships. Lane Kiffin on left. He left Olé today for Eau Lay.

The lonely field beyond Fort Pitt is a burying ground

Yesterday, of course my beloved Pitt "Panthers" got pancaked there by Miam-uh. Today a heard of buffaloes ran roughshod over the pro team, the "Steelers".

"Steelers" fall to 6-6. In the AFC North that is still good enough to be tied in Ws and Ls with Balteemore. But the buzzards are gathering. Head coach Mike Tomlin was tasked by the owner with winning a playoff game this post-season, not just making the playoffs. Steel are fair to middlin' in the winning biz.

Football, Short Pants and Tackle

In order of completion:

Table toppers Arsenal dropped points today to Swine Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. 1-1 the final. Arsenal are going to win the Premier League. City are second and City are not Premier League championship quality. Maybe they could win MLS.

Sensitive City dropped their 9th in 12. They were blasted by San Fran 26-8 in the Mistake by the Lake.

J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS! won their 3rd in 12 today at FetLife 27-24 over the "Falcons".

Pro team in Nawlins BLOW.  Miami (5-7) edged the Aint's (2-10) 21-17 at Pro Player Stadium.

The Indecision

D-Day came and went. Kiffin and Olé Miss are still standing their, dicks in hands, looking more ridickulous than ever. Shameful. SHAME on both of them.

I didn't follow the game after the 1st quarter...

...So this is what I understand from the box score and team stats.

The 13-0 run at the end of the 1Q, the dreadful early shooting: both are signs of players not being connected, the wrong players, miscommunication among players both on offense and defense, players not knowing their roles (like when to shoot, who to guard). We didn't have those problems when Tyler was out. Our first 13 or 14 games everyone knew their roles, the starters were comme ci, comme ça set, the rotation was predictable, communication was clear as a bell. The last three games were +4 points over a failed team, Dallas, +4 over a one-star team, Beer, missing that star (Giannis), and -3 to a team playing the second of a back-to-back and their third in four games. All of those games at home. The three games prior: +10 at Phila, +36 at Chi., +14 over the winded Peaceniks in Miami.

Now you don't have to be fucking Red Auerbach, or Erik Spoelstra, to see that the wind changed. We ended up shooting wonderfully, 50% from the floor, 48% from range. How do you NOT win a game with those shooting numbers? When you start by shooting 31% and the other guys 78% as were the stats at 5:58 of the 1Q.  And that was before that shocking 13 zip run. No way the wind changed at random. Detroit took five more shots than we did. When you connect on 59% of those shots, in a three-point game that's your ballgame! Clearly we were playing efense, no D. Miscommunication, not knowing roles, a la 13 zip. Why did they have five more shots? You can take your pick: was it that we were outrebounded 43-38? And was that because Kel'el played only 22' and had only 7 boards? Bam had 10. Was it because they were a net +5 (the margin of victory) in their points off our turnovers? How about this? They bullied us in the paint, paint points 76 to 54. Was that because Kel'el was 7th man in and was 7th in mins? It was not because they had a better playmaker: Davion had 10 assists and 3 steals. They had two more team assists but their high man had 8.

Or was it this: "Heat"  starters +/- :
Norman +15
Davion +15
Bam +14
Andrew +12
Tyler -18. CLUNK🚨🚨🚨
Tyler's stat line doesn't betray the reason and I detest the +/- metric, but every team uses it, and in this case the difference is just too stark to discount. We lost because when our All-Star was on the floor, with whomever his four running mates happened to be, we were SMOKED.

This was a game coming in that we should have won. Detroit is very talented, Cade Cunningham is super (29 pts), they are well-coached. But second of second, three in four, 2L, nah-ah, New Miami (not to pile on! without Tyler) would have won this game. Tonight, New Miami arrived late and Tyler was a weight on a chain around our necks, and we got under water. One more stat for you: Detroit's largest lead was 22; our largest lead was tyoo, 7-5, 10:05 1st.We were never in this game.

Good night, heaters and haters!

TOO late. FT "Heat" (13-7) 135 Detroit (16-4) 138

HUGE 4Q run by "Heat"--40-27. So it was 17 points end 3. smh.

The Kiffin Debacle

It's the most embarrassing thing in college tackle football since Paterno-Sandusky's collapse under James Franklin. You'll recall, if you knew in the first place, that today was The Decision. Would Lane Kiffin stay at Olé Miss or vamoose for Elle Esse Ew. "Rebels" AD said today was it, no more footsy, shit or get off the pot. There are less than three hours left in D-Day and still no announcement. Supposably the Lane Train wants his next stop to be in Baton Rouge. But the Train also wants to stay in Oxford just a leetle longer, until his team completes their CFP run. Supposably, the AD told the Train, no and hell no. Already have a temporary HC lined up. Now they're just standing there with their dicks in their hands. Tres embarrassing.

"Heat" 51-61 Z, 3:21 2Q. We got the 1Q deficit down to ~5. Don't think we'll win. Something broke in that 13-0 run.

And that's the end of the 1st. "Pistons" on a 13-0 run to lead 36-23. This isn't "New" Miami.

13-0! 23-36! Jesus Christ. This has not happened this season.

It's Rivalry Week!

At noon:

Meeshagin (15) vs Ohio (1). 'Eyes -9.5

In a lonely field beyond Fort Pitt, a duel but no rivalry, Miami Gardens (12) is -6.5 over Pitt (22). Two of three improbable things must needs happen for my Beloved "Panthers" to make the ACC title game. First, they have to beat the Gardeners; second, this is the either/or: Virginny (18), -8.5, 7 pm, has to upchuck at home against their rival, Va. Tech, who fired their coach; OR Smoo (21), -13.5,  8 bells, has to lose at Cal., who just fired their coach. Go "Panthers" but I'm not holding my breath on any of those.

At 3:30:

I guess this is a rivalry, I don't really know, let's call it a rivalry, the Starbucks Cup, Wershington hosts no. 6 O who are -6.5

Vanderbilt (14) is on Rocky Top (19) who are -2.5.

7:30:

In the Pac-12, SoCal (17) is -21.5 over Uclans.

Longhorns

Texas started the season ranked no. 1. Their first game was a loss at then-3 Ohio. No shame there, if memory serves they were underdogs. Three cupcakes, three dubs and they were 9th heading into Gainesville Oct. 4. GAINESVILLE, home of the Florida "Gators", ex-home of Billy Napier, home of currently 3-8 FU. 'Horns were 6.5 road favorites. Texas never had a lead the entire game. The "Gators" beat 'em 29-21. It was 22-7 with 5 1/2' left in the 3rd quarter! Beeg shame. Rebounded to beat Oklahoma (6) their next game. Close win at KY Jelly; one TD dub at Miss. State. They were ranked 20th going into the Vandy (9) game n Austin. Another squeaker. "Longhorns" 7-2. Leapt to 10th in the rankings before playing betwixt the hedges agin' then-5 Jawja. BEEG game for 'Horns. Got. Completely. Demolished. 35-10. Pretenders! Sarkisian out! 17th. Sooie Pig Sooie, easy win. Crept up to 16th.

That is the season's history of the team that entered 16th, 2.5 home dogs against undefeated, untied, 3rd-ranked (I thought they were best team in country), arch-rival DEI. "Longhorns' took the lead for good midway through the 3rd quarter, a seemingly tenuous 13-10. Then they outscored DEI 14-7 in the 4th to win, really rather easily, convincingly.

Arch Manning, the latest scion of tackle football's First Family, entered college football lore tonight. Although only 14/29 he outplayed DEI's Marcel Reed, who had two INTs. Arch had two TDs, one through the air, the other, weaving through the "Aggies" D on a 35-yard run.

Didn't see this one coming. Did not see a Texas win here. All the eyes of Texas are upon them tonight. I am shocked.

Female West Virginia National Guard Member Dies in Wednesday Shooting in D.C.

Sarah Beckstrom was just 20 years old. May God keep her.

The suspect, Rahmanullah Lakanwal, is an Afghan national who worked with the CIA there. He came to the U.S. in 2021 under the Biden administration. He was granted asylum in April, 2025 by Trump.

Trump put Sarah in harm's way with his provocative, political stunt, "Operation DC Safe and Beautiful", deploying National Guards from red states after seeing homeless people and litter from his limousine on the way to play golf. Lakanwal lived in Washington state and reportedly came all the way to the Capitol to carry out the shootings.

English is the most supple language.

It is also the richest. English-speaking people borrow from other languages freely. I don't know this for sure but I'd bet $10 that there are more words in the English language than in any other.

Why pare that down?

When you write in such a lush language why not use your knowledge to find le mot juste? Why write in a spare style, as Ernest Hemingway did?

In the 21 completed seasons since the franchise was reborn...

...as the "Bobcats", changing the nickname back to "Hornets" after ten seasons, guess what Charlotte's average win percentage as a decimal is? Okay, that requires some math. .364. Now guess what that translates to in average W's and L's every damn season over 82 games for 21 seasons?

30-52.

In 2024/25 that would have been tied for 24th out of 30 teams in the Association.

2023/24, 27th out of 30.

2023/24, 23rd.

2022/23, 27th.

There hasn't been a repeat champion in the NBA since Peaceniks did it in 2017, 2018. Not even close. The only teams to make the Finals more than once in the last seven seasons are Peaceniks, Miami, and Beans (twice each). But history...

Oklahoma City is lived history. Show me the weakness on that team. You can't. There is none. I will be smack-me-in-the-forehead-with-a two-by-four gobsmacked if they don't repeat. The only thing that can stop them, it says here, is a season-ending injury to Shai Gilgeous-Alexander--not that SGA is their whole team, far from it--but he is their sine qua non.

I read uncertainty in Spo in the minutes

Seven guys getting 20+ mins in a three-point game? Five of the six RESERVES all with higher +/-s than ANY of the starters? Lol. No. That's not an abundance of riches, that's uncertainty in the exact optimal mix. Spo hasn't decided.

Lebron: [After 2011 Finals loss] "Spo...went to Oregon hung out with Chip Kelly and learned spread offense"

Conversation with (now coach) JJ Redick:

Wave the Green Flagg! The race to the basket is on! WTF is this Olé D, you fucking STIFF!

"...instead of pick-and-roll, which you can scheme against, we don't really run plays. You can't scout us like that. Then obviously (with) our pace, we try to wear on you that way, and we get stops. Every game, we're trying to hit those three marks -- run with pace, play controlled havoc offense, and get stops."

U.S. plans to cut ties with Boy Scouts

U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is planning for the military to cut all ties with Scouting America, formerly known as the Boy Scouts. According to documents reviewed by NPR, Hegseth claims the organization is no longer a meritocracy and has become an organization designed to "attack boy-friendly spaces." In a draft memo to Congress, he criticizes Scouting for being "genderless" and for promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion.

I'm sitting here killing time before USMLE...

...on a podcast speaking in terms of wonder about the Miami "Heat" when I notice an ad.

And I am wondering, "How is that even allowed?"

With Sensitive City's...

...double-digit loss in Ontario State tonight the "Heat" jumped Sensitive City and now sit 3rd in the Least, one game behind the "Raptors" and 3.5 back of conference-toppers Zollner. We play Male Deer, 11th ((8-10 in Bang Bus Place on Thanksgiving Day. We are 5W.

You have to wear sunglasses at all times in SoFl to protect your eyes. This late fall, take extra precaution for there is a supernova over 601 Biscayne and it will blind insouciant visitors.

Kel'el...

...the gestalt switch came against Portlandia, Nov. 8: 12 reb. In the 9 games since, including that home game he has never had single-digit boards, and has averaged 14.7 pg. For the entire 18 games this season he is averaging 12.4 ppg and 11 rbg. Stellar numbers and a light year ahead of his numbers last season.

4,000,000

Sometime in the last hour or two we hit 4M total pageviews on this here blog, five months to the day since we hit 3M. This is cumulative pageviews since June 30, 2010. 15 1/2 years. No, not objectively great, or even good. But relatively:

1,000,000: Aug. 20, 2023. Over 13 years to reach our first mil.

2,000,000: Nov. 7, 2024, 16 months to go from 1 to 2.

3,000,000: June 24, 2025, 8 months.

4,000,000: Today, Nov. 24, exactly five months.

THANK YOU PAGEVIEWERS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Our shooting % was 45, same as was against Seven Foot Sixers, but we were Old Miami from range,  a pathetic 19% tonight. Against Phila., 34%. Both wins. You hate me for doing this but there has been a drop-off in our shooting: Prior to Phila.:

@ Chi, (another dub and a BLOW OUT I know!) 41% (28%)

Peaceniks 41% (37%)

Mamdani City (W) 45 and 40

_________________________

That's our last five games. We'll take it to ten:

In Peoples Square Garden (L) 46 and 40

Sensitive City (L) 48 and 40

Sensitive City (W) 47 and 33

Portlandia (W) 51 and 29

Queens (W) 52 and 43

Okay, I just made a liar out of myself. Nevermind.

FT "Heat" 106 (12-6) D-as-in-Dog 102 (5-14)

Herro. 104-102, :41.2, D FTO. Should not be close.

102-102, :48.4 left. D is 5-13. This is messed up.

Chi, oh my: Male Cows (9-7) being run by NO (2-15) 59-42, 5:12 2Q

Least 2nd place Ontario State (12-5) leads 3rd place Sensitive City (12-6) 88-74, 1:18 3Q

HT "Heat" 52 Dallas 44

We shot superbly in the 2Q, raising our HT percentage to 43%. Tyler was largely responsible, from 1% to 4/8. He has 8 pts.

Kel'el has 10 rebs in 15'.

"Heat" 40 D 32, 4:48 2Q, D FTO again

30-29, 8:35 2Q, D FTO

Yeah, this is Old Miami with Bam the leading scorer (11). The works are all gunked up.

"Mavs" 7-2 2Q, 22-26

Powell is out (groin strain). Herro (0/3) is back and started in his place.

Yeah, we're back to not being able to SHOOT! 31% (11%)

New Miami? "Heat" 20 Dallas 19, end 1Q. That's OLD Miami. That's Iowa.

This was to be the year of the Giant Leap...

...for Nebraska. To me they never looked capable. Now they have been murdered by a PSU team that simply has more talent. They're 7-4 and are home underdogs to Iowa on Black Friday. Lose that one and they're 7-5. They will go to a bowl. Lose the bowl game and they're 7-6. Which is what they were last season.

Where I am going with this is here: Nebraska is never going to be nationally relevant again. Since 2014, this is the 10th full season, the "Cornhuskers" have had three different full-time head coaches and have gone a cumulative 47-63. That's a .427 decimal win percentage. On a 12-game regular season that's 5-7 every damn year for ten years.

It's over Nebraska. Collect your annual check from the B1G and be content. That's as good as it's going to get.

The Choice

A cowardly, scared, moderate Democrat, Gretchen Whitmer, willing to meet ("in private" only), panics and hides her face as a prostitute in a perp walk after a brothel raid, Trump Oval Office meeting, April 9.

A confident, young Democratic Socialist, Zohran Mamdani, willing to meet and unafraid to show his face, meeting with Trump in the Oval Office, November 21.

Which direction should Dems go? Fraidy cat moderate, or confident Left?

Actually not. It was Davion Mitchell who powered Nahmin and the team. There are 1:36 of Nahmin's baskets here, all but two set up by the superb point guard play of no. 45.

Queens

Can this lame franchise be revoked?

For the sixth straight time they posted a L; for the ninth time in ten games they posted a L.

They are the "Browns" of the Association.

They are a pustule on the asshole of basketball.

They are a disfiguring disease.

And they are contagious.

Ukraine and U.S. Cite Progress in Talks on Ending War With Russia

President Trump lashed out at Ukraine even as the talks on his peace proposal were still taking place, accusing the country’s leadership of being ungrateful for American support.

Next Saturday...

Yesterday the Florida State admin announced that head professor of pigskin Mike Norvell will be back in 2026. Florida of course fired their head guy, Billy Napier, weeks ago. Next Saturday the "Seminoles" and "Gators play their annual season-ender. This one is in G-ville. The "Gators" are 3-8. "Seminoles" 5-6. It is against nature and reason that these two Florida schools are this awful.

Kel'el Ware is...

...averaging 12 ppg and 10.6 rpg. Last season, his rookie, it was 9.3 and 7.4.

Jaime Jaquez, Jr. is...

...averaging 16.7 ppg on...not a typo: 53% field shooting👀 (only 20.7% from three). Last season, 3J's second, he averaged 8.6 on 46.1% (31.1%). In his first season, 11.9 on 48.9% (32.2%).

Norman Powell is...

...averaging 25.4 ppg on...pause, deep breath, blink...50% floor shooting and...blink blink...46.4% from 3.

That is not mortal.

FT Phila. 117 New Miami 127. My goodness: 4W and 11-6

Story of the Stats:

49%-45% field shooting
34%-34% 3-point shooting
58-46 rebs (despite 7' 6"er Andre Drummond grabbing 23!)
12 pts off 13 t.o.s; 21 off 15

No "Heater" played more than 33'; 11 saw action.

Individually:

Norman Fucking Powell: 32 pts, 11?18 (4/7), 29'.
3J (4th off bench): 22 pts (10/12), 7 asts, 4 t.o.s, in team-high tie 33'.
Bam 18 pts, 13 rebs team-high tie 33'.
Kel'el, in starter-low 26', 20 pts, 16 rebs.
Davion, 12 asts, 1 t.o. (12-1 ratio), 8 rebs in 31'
Pelle, 32', 8 asts, 2 t.o.s (4-1 ratio), 7 rebs, 6 pts, 2/13 (0/6).

HT Seven Foot Sixers 67 New Miami 71

Norman Powell 23 pts in 16'.

Kel'el Ware 10 rebs in 13'.

"Heat" shot 50% (season normal); Phil. 52%.

We outrebounded them 25-22.

The difference in the half was in points off turnovers. We had 17 from 9; they had 5 from 4.

At Phil.'s mandatory TO, 6:31 1Q, it's 11-16 New Miami

Nahmin has 10 pts in 5'; Kel'el 4 rebs in 5'.

Seven Foot Sixers vs New Miami, 1 pm Normal Colonies Time

Interesting...Phil. opened -1.5, at tip-off it's New Miami -1.5.

Phil. is 9-6, "Heat" 10-6.

Phil. is without Joel, which is not new. They have Paul George John Ringo, which is also not new. This is his third game back. "Heat" are without Wig-o, Niko, which is new, and Herro, which is not new.

I don't understand why that line switched.

Mast Rhule turned around PSU sooner than expected.
