Not so for the defending champs. They now have the same 3-5 record as the Eastern Conference runners-up.
Steve Kerr said Draymond Green’s face punch of Jordan Poole in a practice was the greatest “crisis” of Kerr’s time as head man on the Bay. Green was suspended and apologized to the team but there was no account of how the apology was received by the team and if Poole accepted it and everybody moved on. 3-5 doesn’t conclusively prove the team has moved on.
A couple of cute quotes came out of the game. With 1:39 left to play Steph Curry launched a trey and Jimmy was called for a foul for hitting Steph’s hand. Tweet. Steph would have shot three FT’s. Jimmy protested and Spo took “a leap of faith” and challenged the call. Some risk there. Lose the review and you lose a TO AND Steph gets to shoot three. The call was overturned. Jimmy had the hand after the ball was gone. Thus, explained zebra Bill Kennedy:
“They had a high five.”
Jordan Poole was called three times for t.o.’s for doing the same thing. I noticed the last one, described in the play by play as “disc dribble turnover”. Didn’t know what that was. “Discontinued dribble turnover.” Steve Kerr didn’t know what that was. Did know what a “carry” was but missed a memo the NBA sent out just Tuesday explaining “discontinued dribble turnover.” Kerr:
“The whole league does that," Kerr said. “They’ve been doing it ever since Allen Iverson convinced the referees that it wasn’t a carry. It is a carry. What Jordan does is a carry. But the whole league’s been doing it. I guess I have to start checking my email on game days.”
