In 2008 a solid blue wall extended over the entire northeast quadrant of the United States from Maine to Minnesota and Iowa and hugged the seaboard down through North Carolina, skipped South Carolina and Georgia and emerged again in Florida.

                                                                In 2012 only two states were lost in the northern half of the country, Indiana in the Midwest and the northeast and North Carolina in the mid south.

                      But then in 2016, Behold! Five states in the northern half turned abruptly authoritarian!

                 Discount Obama 2008 and Trump 2016 for novelty. Even after four years of catastrophe in 2020 Ohio, Iowa, and Florida stayed authoritarian.
