Good morning beautiful chickens. Don’t want to break out in Kumbaya but something may have broken yesterday, namely the Taliban’s hold on, Kevin McCarthy at least. He worked with Democrats. Wouldn't have gotten the funding stopgap out of the House unless all Dems but one voted with him. It put the Taliban in proper perspective for him, I think. You have two choices, Kevin: be held hostage by the Taliban or be Speaker of the HOUSE, the WHOLE house.
At breakfast this morning I was reading the captioning on a CNN report on this. Might enough Dems vote for McCarthy if Gaetz (rhymes with Rapes) files his long-threatened motion to vacate the chair? The reporter (Manu-something?) said Dems would want McCarthy to make concessions, on Ukraine, I'm thinking, but generally; like on Biden impeachment. He only did that to placate the Taliban. Well, now he doesn't have to placate the Taliban. Democratic officeholders have been urging McCarthy to reach across the aisle. Jim Clyburn a month or more ago. President Biden. McCarthy praised the president and his team as rational and professional after the budget negotiations a couple of months ago.
Not one Democrat broke ranks to vote for McCarthy for Speaker in January. That thing dragged on for fifteen votes because of Taliban opposition. McCarthy finally made a deal with those devils to get enough of them to vote present. There is a bit of good will now after this funding deal and I could see, especially if Hakeem Jeffries gives tacit consent, enough Dems voting for McCarthy (IF they get concessions) to defeat a motion to vacate. It's reasonably imaginable anyway.
